Apple has yet to reveal its next generation iPad mini, but numerous rumors regarding the device’s release date have surfaced – the iPad mini 6 could hit the market later this year or early 2021.

Until the tech giant provides more details, designer Parker Ortolani has come up with a concept of what the new iPad mini could look like, as first reported on by 9to5Mac.

The concept image depicts an iPad mini that is 20 percent smaller than the iPad mini 5 making it ‘more pocketable, more portable and more fun to take with you,’ according to the image’s caption.

Based on Ortolani’s vision, the tablet would have the same 7.9-inch display as the iPad mini 5 but with reduced bezel sizes for an edge-to-edge screen.

Designed by product developer, the iPad mini 6 suggests Apple would keep the same 7.9-inch screen and reduce the bezel size for an edge-to-edge display. The image also shows that the device would support Apple Pencil 2, allowing creatives to conduct work on the go

The new device would also include Face ID instead of the traditional Touch ID.

However, the image is just one person’s idea of what the device could look like.

On the other hand, reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared an investor note in March that says the firm will launch a 10.8-inch iPad later this year.

He also stated that users should expect an iPad mini with an 8.5-inch or 9-inch display that could be released in the first half of 2021.

These iPads would also be ‘the affordable price tag and the adoption of fast chips,’ much like the new iPhone SE.

The last time Apple redesigned its iPad mini was in 2019 – the first overhaul of the device since it first launched in 2015.

Apple’s Phil Schiller said in 2019: ‘The iPad continues to provide magical new experiences for a growing range of uses where it is the absolute best device, from playing games in augmented reality to note-taking and drawing with Apple Pencil, from streaming HD movies and editing 4K films to learning to develop apps with Swift Playgrounds.’

‘Today the iPad family takes two big leaps forward with an all-new 10.5-inch iPad Air that brings high-end size, features and performance at a breakthrough price, and a major upgrade to the 7.9-inch iPad mini, which also brings Apple Pencil, Retina display and the A12 Bionic chip to the many customers that love its compact size.’
