Off-duty police officer dies after falling from a jet-ski off Welsh coast as force sends out ‘heartfelt sympathies’ to his family

  • The alarm was raised shortly after 4.30pm on Saturday following the incident
  • A huge rescue operation was then launched involving the Coastguard and RNLI
  • However, despite medical intervention, the officer died at the scene 

An off-duty police officer has died after falling from a jet-ski off the coast of Pwllheli, North Wales.

The alarm was raised shortly after 4.30pm on Saturday following the incident, and a a huge rescue operation was launched.

Emergency services, including the Coastguard and RNLI attended, and the officer was retrieved from the water.

Despite extensive medical intervention, he died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed, said North Wales Police.

Chief Constable Carl Foulkes said: ‘We are extremely sad to confirm the death of one of our police officers who died off-duty today and our heartfelt sympathies go to his family, friends and colleagues.’

Mark Jones, general secretary of North Wales Police Federation, said: ‘To lose a colleague is very dark day for us all. Policing is a close-knit family and tonight we mourn the passing of ‘one of our own’.

‘Throughout the coming days and weeks we will be here to support the family, friends and colleagues during this very difficult time and we express our heartfelt sympathies to all those involved.’  

North Wales Police say they are not in a position to release any further details at this time.

Two teens, 16 and 18, missing in the water in St Annes, Lancashire

Police have said they are concerned for the safety of two people, believed to be teenagers aged 16 and 18, in St Annes.

Lancashire police said they were called just before 6:55pm on Saturday after reports that three people had gone into the water and got into difficulty.

One of the teens, a 15-year-old boy, managed to get to shore and is currently receiving medical treatment for suspected hypothermia. 

However two more people, a boy aged 16 and a man aged 18 from Dewsbury, are still missing.

The police said that the coastguard and RNLI are conducting a search in the area to try and find them, asking that anyone with information to call 101 quoting reference 1398 of August 15th.
