Dancing With The Stars: Jesse Metcalfe gets eliminated after tango with Sharna Burgess on ’80s Night

Jesse Metcalfe was eliminated Monday from season 29 of Dancing With The Stars after performing a tango with pro partner Sharna Burgess during ’80s Night.

The 41-year-old actor and Sharna, 35, earned 19 points out of a possible 30 for their performance to Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears For Fears.

The Desperate Housewives star while being informed by Sharna of their ’80s Night assignment said he grew up during the period and that Judd Nelson, 60, of The Breakfast Club fame was his hero.

Jesse said he identified with Judd’s role of outsider John Bender in The Breakfast Club and admitted that he wasn’t popular growing up.

He performed in a white suit and matching shoes while Sharna sparkled in a purple dress as Pat Nagel-style images flashed behind them during their tango.

Bruno Tonioli, 64, pointed out that Jesse lost his timing and ‘it went a bit wrong’.

Carrie Ann Inaba, 52, said she agreed with Bruno and congratulated Jesse for feeling the music when the beat kicked in.

New judge Derek Hough, 35, said the ‘framework’ was off in the dance and commended Jesse for his effort.

The show’s new host and executive producer Tyra Banks, 46, told Jesse and Sharna their 19 points was ‘commendable’.

Jesse and Sharna ended up in the bottom two along with former pro football player Vernon Davis, 36, and his pro partner Peta Murgatroyd, 34.

Vernon and Peta performed a tango to Livin’ On A Prayer by Bon Jovi after the Super Bowl champion was put through hard rehearsals by his pro partner.

Bruno pointed out some wrong footwork, while Carrie Ann gave Vernon credit for his progress and Derek said it was ‘well done’.

They earned 21 points out of 30 for their routine and faced elimination along with Jesse and Sharna.

The judges voted to decide their fate and Bruno voted to keep Vernon and was followed by Carrie Anne who also picked him to remain in the competition.

Derek revealed that if his tie-breaking vote was needed he also would have voted to keep Vernon and Peta.

Tyra ended the two-hour show by saying that Jesse and Sharna would appear Tuesday on Good Morning America and also promoted a dance performance by former DWTS champion Derek next week on the show.

The ’80s Night episode was fully embraced by the contestants and judges who all dressed in flamboyant style from the decade and Tyra wore three different outfits.

The show also included a few dramatic and surprising endings to performances.

The One Day At A Time actress channeled Jennifer Beals in leg warmers during her routine and shocked the judges by finishing her dance by being doused with water while throwing her head back in a chair.

They earned 24 points for their routine.

The Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Bristowe, 35, and her pro parter Artem Chigvintsev, 38, later performed a tango to the Tiffany song I Think We’re Alone Now.

Kaitlyn boasted during rehearsal that she knew some ’80s dance moves and after they performed a proper tango she whipped off her skirt to wear cutoff denim shorts and started breakdancing for a surprise finish with Artem.

‘I didn’t see that coming,’ admitted Carrie Ann.

Kaitlyn told Tyra that she taught herself how to breakdance years ago and Artem admitted that she was teaching him how to do it.

The judges each awarded them nine points for a total of 27 out of 30 for their tango and they finished in second place on the leaderboard.

Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir, 36, and pro partner Britt Stewart topped the leaderboard with 29 points after they performed the first contemporary dance of the season to Total Eclipse Of The Heart by Bonnie Tyler.

Johnny was having a tough time in practice so Britt took him to an ice rink where being in his element rejuvenated his ballroom dancing.

Monica Aldama, 48, and pro dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy, 34, finished in third place for the episode as they earned 26 points for their tango to Tainted Love by Soft Cell.

They reflected on the chaos that occurred at the end of last week’s episode when Tyra announced they were safe only to call them back as they had actually finished in the bottom two.

Tyra also addressed the mishap at the start of the show and assured viewers that voting was tabulated correctly and the right couples were eventually in the bottom two as she explained that she had been given cards to read with the wrong names.

The middle was tight with five couples receiving identical scores of all 8’s from the judges.

In addition to Justina and Sasha, Jeanie Mai, 41, and Brandon Armstrong also received 24 points for their jazz dance to Like A Virgin by Madonna.

The Selling Sunset star, who grew up obsessed with the boy band, beamed throughout her performance and later was overjoyed by a personal video message from band members.

Dancing With The Stars will return next week on ABC with a special dancing performance by Derek who will be joined by his dancer girlfriend Hayley Erbert, 26.
