He strongly defended her decision by insisting Whitney was the victim of Leo’s horrific stalking and harassment.

But it became clear that at many points he was struggling to differentiate between Leo and himself.

He declared: ‘She was literally fighting for her life and you, all of you, are you really going to punish her all over again, for what?

‘Defending herself? Loving the wrong man? Kindness? How is that right?

‘How many more times are we going to stand by while a woman’s life is ruined because she loved an abuser?

As the jury deliver their verdict fans will have to wait and see whether Whitney will walk free, with Sonia’s shocked reaction giving little away.

Whitney had originally planned to plead guilty for Leo’s murder, but at the last minute changed her plea, leading to the lengthy trial.

Gray also appeared to consider handing himself into police at the last minute, as fans continue to demand he get his comeuppance for killing Chantelle after months of abuse.
