Scream 5: Ghostface voice actor Roger L Jackson drops major spoiler for upcoming sequel

Longstanding Scream actor Roger L Jackson revealed a behind-the-scenes detail for the forthcoming Scream 5 – and a potentially major plot spoiler in the process.

Roger, 62, has provided the voice of the so-called ghostface killer throughout the franchise, since Scream 1 in 1996.

And in a phone interview with British website Ghostface UK, Roger was asked about the infamous mask, worn by all seven incarnations of the killer in the movie series.

Spilling his guts: Scream 5’s ghostface voice actor Roger L Jackson has dropped a major spoiler for the upcoming sequel, letting slip that ‘the main killer’ will not wear the usual iconic white mask

Referencing the ghostly face covering, he said: ‘There’s been a rumour going around that the ultra-white mask is involved…

‘What I will tell you is that the killer, the main killer, will not have the ultra-white mask.

‘There’s something else involved, and it’s not the white mask!’

This tidbit has led to several questions, with some fans taking to Twitter to ponder if the ‘main killer’ will be wearing something totally different to usual.

New look? Fans have assumed the Scream 5 mask will simply be a slightly updated variation of past masks, with one Twitter user noting the teaser image for the film features a grainier, silver-hued ghostface

Variant: Between 2011's Scream 4 and now, the franchise was developed into a TV series in which the killers wore a different mask, only slightly resembling the one from the movies

Between 2011’s Scream 4 and now, the franchise was developed into a TV series, which had nothing to do with the films.

In that, the killers wore a different mask, only slightly resembling the one from the movies.

But picking apart Roger’s comments, fans have assumed the Scream 5 mask will simply be a slightly updated variation of past masks, with one Twitter user noting the teaser image for the film features a grainier, silver-hued ghostface.

Roger’s comments also have seemingly spilled the major detail that there will be more than one killer in the movie.

Typically, the movies feature a double-act of killers. Scream 1, Scream 2, and Scream 4 saw psychotic partnerships in the form of Stu Macher [Matthew Lillard] and Billy Loomis [Skeet Ulrich], Mrs Loomis [Laurie Metcalf] and Mickey Altieri [Timothy Olyphant] and Jill Roberts [Emma Roberts] and Charlie Walker [Rory Culkin].

Scream 3 saw lead character Sidnet Prescott’s [Neve Campbell] long-lost brother Roman Bridger [Scott Foley] work alone, taking credit for masterminding the Scream 1 murders in the process.

It seems Scram 5 will be following the route of the first, second and fourth chapters, perhaps even adding a third killer to the mix this time.

Scream 5 is set for cinematic release on 14 January 2022.
