GBBO: Mark Lutton eliminated after his showstopper cake is branded ‘INEDIBLE’ during Japanese week

Great British Bake 0ff: Mark Lutton is eliminated after his disastrous showstopper cake is branded ‘INEDIBLE’ during the show’s FIRST Japanese week

Mark Lutton has become the latest person to be eliminated from the Great British Bake Off after failing to impress during the show’s first ever Japanese Week.

Despite starting off the week with confidence, Mark struggled to wow the judges with his burger buns, while he landed in 5th place in the technical challenge.

The showstopper challenge, in which bakers were tasked with making a kawaii ‘cute’ creation, proved to be the final straw for the Northern Irish baker, 27, with his Avocado themed creation branded ‘inedible’ by judge Paul Hollywood.

Goodbye: Mark Lutton has become the latest person to be eliminated from the Great British Bake Off after failing to impress during the show’s first ever Japanese Week

At the start of the show, the bakers were set the challenge of making filled steamed buns – a first in the show’s 10-year history.

And the task saw mixed results, with Mark’s burger-themed buns looking good, but were called ‘dry’ by Paul, who suggested they could’ve been improved my mayonnaise or ketchup.

Next up was the technical challenge in which the remaining contestants were tasked with making a matcha crepe cake, consisting of layers of 12 crepes, strawberries and white chocolate ganache buttercream, decorated with fresh fruit and edible flowers.

Hinting that it would be a tough challenge, Prue Leith warned: ‘Don’t panic, there’s nothing in there that you haven’t done before.’

The cakes were presented with varying results, with Laura coming in last place, Peter coming in first, while Mark landed 5th out of seven.

His cake didn’t look too impressive, with Prue describing it as ‘ugly’ on the sides, while noting his strawberries were too large.

Going into the showstopper, Mark really needed to pull off an impressive bake to save him from elimination, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Presenting his cute ‘Avo Baby’ creation,  the judges initially seemed impressed, with Prue remarking it looked ‘witty and charming’.

However, when Paul took a slice of the cake, he found it to be ‘very dry’, with Mark suggesting her try another layer.

But things only went downhill as Paul said it was ‘probably worse’, before going on to say: ‘It’s cruel to say that it’s inedible, bit it’s getting there.’

Ouch! Things only went downhill as Paul said the second layer was 'probably worse', before going on to say: 'It's cruel to say that it's inedible, bit it's getting there'
