Katherine Kelly Lang dishes on The Bold and The Beautiful new safety protocols

The Bold and the Beautiful is the most watched daytime drama in the world and was the first show to resume production amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Original cast member and soap opera legend Katherine Kelly Lang exclusively chatted with DailyMailTV host Thomas Roberts about the return of the popular series after lockdown was lifted.

The 59-year-old star dished on the creative ways the show is safely keeping the romance alive by using mannequins on set and the actor’s real life romantic partners as stand-ins.

Bold, Beautiful and Back! Soap opera legend Katherine Kelly Lang exclusively chatted with DailyMailTV host Thomas Roberts about the return of The Bold and the Beautiful after lockdown was lifted

‘It feels really good that we could be the first show back,’ Lang told DailyMailTV. ‘Everybody’s just so happy to see The Bold and the Beautiful again.’

The Bold And the Beautiful is set in Los Angeles and in the world of high fashion, centering on the Forrester family and their fashion company, Forrester Creations.

The blonde beauty has played fan-favorite Brooke Logan since 1987 and has kept the audience on the edge of their seat through the ups and downs of her tangled web with the Forrester clan.

The long-running soap opera halted production along with dozens of other TV shows in mid-March as the coronavirus spread.

‘So, we have to keep the romance going and it’s hard when we have to stand eight feet apart,’ Katherine explained. ‘I mean how do you profess your love from eight feet?’

One way to tackle that issue was to use love-scene doubles – like stunt doubles but for intimate scenes – using the real-life partners of the actors.

Katherine explains: ‘So what happens is, for example, I’ll have a scene with Ridge and when I cross into him before I’m close they have to take him out. They have to stop tape to take him out and then they put my honey in.’

‘So my sweetheart, Dominique Zoida, he has to put this wig on to make him look like Ridge,’ she continued.

The star said that a few couples have been able to use their own significant others on the show which has actually produced some surprisingly sizzling moments.

‘It’s even more passionate than it normally would be because he’s my sweetheart,’ she quipped.

If an actor doesn’t have a special someone to lock lips with Katherine says things get a little more complicated.

'If you don't have your significant other available or if you don't have one, those people have had to resort to kissing a mannequin. And once you get past the part of just wanting to laugh the whole time, you know, it works.'

After three decades on the air, B&B has dealt with many a challenge and a changing time and will keep doing so for years to come. The soap has been renewed through 2022.

‘I am honored to be a part of this show from day one,’ she gushed. ‘It’s been an incredible ride. And I just think hopefully I’ll be there for the rest of my life.’

Looking back at her time with the show as Brooke Lang, Katherine says it’s a bit ‘overwhelming’. Brooke has had many ups and downs over the years, tons of drama with her sisters Donna and Katie and quite a few husbands.

On the show, Brooke has walked down the aisle twice with Eric Forrester, and also married Grant Chambers, Thorne Forrester, Whipple Jones, Nick Marone and Bill Spencer, Jr..

But, it has been her long love affair with Ridge Forrester – who Brooke married a whopping eight times over the years – that has kept fans coming back for more and more.

‘What’s your favorite Brooke Forrester wedding?’ Thomas Roberts asked.

‘My first marriage was actually to Eric Forrester because I couldn’t have Ridge so I married his father, Eric,’ she said recalling Brookes scandalous past. ‘I also loved after I divorced him and finally got Ridge, I love the first wedding of Ridge and Brooke I just thought it was so sweet. It was so fairy tale.’

Currently, Katherine is only one of two original cast members still starring in the show. John McCook who plays her two-time ex-husband Eric Forrester is also an OG.

‘John and I are still the original two that are left on the show, and it’s so sweet to have these wonderful scenes with him every once in a while,’ she said.

One thing that hasn’t changed since Katherine and John started on the show, is its devoted fan-base. B&B is still a big hit after all these years, winning its time slot on a regular basis and averaging 3.2 million viewers an episode.
