A Met Police officer has been charged over a collision with a cyclist after a probe by the policing watchdog.

Pc Eugene Acheampong, 27, is due to appear before magistrates to face a single count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said a cyclist was seriously injured after a collision with a marked police car being driven by Acheampong on August 3 last year.

The Scotland Yard officer was investigating an incident on Sirdar Road, in Wood Green, north London at the time.

The investigation into the collision was completed in April 2020 and the evidence was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) who decided to charge the officer.

Acheampong is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
