Liam Neeson is currently in hotel quarantine in Sydney before he flies to Melbourne to begin filming for his new movie, Blacklight.

The 68-year-old actor will be finishing up his mandatory 14-day isolation period by the weekend, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Liam’s new action flick is set to bolster Australia’s film industry and bring hundreds of jobs to local Victorians in the aftermath of Melbourne’s draconian second COVID-19 lockdown

The $43 million movie Blacklight will see Liam take on the role of a ‘troubled off-the-books fixer for the FBI tasked with pulling undercover agents out of dangerous situations,’ according to production.

Blacklight is written, directed and produced by Mark Williams, who is the co-creator of the Emmy-award winning Netflix series, Ozark.

Mark, who also directed Liam in his recent movie Honest Thief, revealed he chose to film Blacklight in Australia over America and the UK due to the country’s successful handling of the coronavirus crisis.

However, soon after choosing to film in Melbourne, the state endured a strict second lockdown.

However, Williams explained that he didn’t lose faith, saying: ‘I arrived in Australia a couple of months ago, and when I got out of quarantine and went walking around Sydney I was shocked at how many people were out and about without masks.

‘I’ve been in Melbourne for the past month, and all the masks here make me feel much more comfortable, not just for our production but for everyone else in the city too.’

Meanwhile, Liam’s last movie Honest Thief, which Williams directed, scored the top spot at the US box office mid-October.

Despite beating out its competitors, the thriller earned a paltry $3.7 million, making it one of the weakest box office reports in years, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The figures are undoubtedly a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which have forced many cinemas to close their doors and others to offer limited screenings of select movies.
