‘That’s what Wooderson is about, his car,’ the Oscar-winner said of his character in the scene, which also included actor Rory Cochrane playing a stoner character named Slater.

‘And I said, “Well, I’m in my 1970 Chevelle. There’s one.” I said, “Wooderson’s about getting high.” I said, “Well, Slater’s riding shotgun and he’s always got a doobie rolled up,”‘ said the actor.

‘I said, “Wooderson’s about rock and roll.” I said, “I got Ted Nugent’s Stranglehold in the 8-track. Here’s three … and then I heard, “Action,”and I looked up: “Aright, alright, alright!”‘ McConaughey said.

McConaughey, who won an Oscar for Best Actor in 2014 for Dallas Buyers Club, said the famous line has been rehashed to him by fans throughout the years in many forms.

‘I hear it, I get pictures, people have it tattooed in very sensational places on their body,’ said McConaughey, who has a career breakout with the role in the 1994 indie classic that also featured an up-and-coming Ben Affleck.

He told ET two years ago, ‘That was the role that, at that time I didn’t know if it was going to be a hobby or something I was doing for the summer, and it turned out to be a career. That’s where it all started and I always look back to that one.’

McConaughey, who has three children with wife Camila Alves, 38 – 10-year-old daughter Vida and sons, Levi, 12, and Livingston, seven – reunited with some of his costars for a read in a charitable drive last month for the March for Science, the Voto Latino Foundation and other organizations to spread voter awareness in Texas.

McConaughey did a reading of the movie with Cochrane, Adam Goldberg, Parker Posey and Anthony Rapp, as well as some stand-in stars including Ashton Kutcher, Zachary Levi and Eiza Gonzalez.
