Kym Marsh has revealed her former Corrie love interest Simon Gregson was her teenage crush – and she even had a poster of him on her bedroom wall.

The actress, 44, who played Michelle Connor in the ITV soap, told The Sun that she first saw Simon, who plays Steve McDonald, when she was 14 or 15.

The former Hear’Say singer never expected she’d end up playing Simon’s love interest when she joined the soap in 2006.

Kym had just signed to an independent record label in Manchester and recalls seeing ‘the McDonald twins from Corrie’ at a gig where Dannii Minogue and Chesney Hawkes were playing.

She said: ‘I couldn’t believe the McDonald twins from Corrie were there. I remember seeing him and thinking, “Oh my god, he is so gorgeous, he’s so handsome”.

‘And then, years down the line, there I am as his girlfriend on Corrie. He thought it was hilarious.’

She added: ‘I told Simon when I started that when I was younger I had a poster of him on my bedroom wall. ‘He’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.

Kym, who left Coronation Street last year after 13 years to work on other projects, said that one of her highlights on the show was her baby loss storyline, which she said is ‘close to her heart’.

The actress lost her newborn son Archie in 2009 shortly after he was born.

At the end of last month, Kym recalled when her loved ones didn’t want to attend her stillborn son Archie’s funeral as they ‘couldn’t cope with grieving such a small baby’ during Morning Live.

The former Corrie star, 44, and her ex-husband Jamie Lomas were left heartbroken when their child passed away at just 21 weeks, following a premature birth in February 2009.

Following his tragic death, the actress admitted she opted against speaking about her loss as she ‘didn’t want to believe it was true’, and discovered some of her family and friends avoided the topic as they found the mourning process ‘really difficult’.

Sharing her own experience, Kym reflected: ‘When I lost my son, Archie, 11-years-ago now and I lost him quite late in my pregnancy, I personally didn’t want to talk about it initially, because I felt that if I talked about it, it would be real.’
