MasterChef stars Callum Hann and Laura Sharrad are forced to close their Adelaide businesses as South Australia enters a mandatory six-day lockdown following a COVID outbreak

MasterChef’s Callum Hann and Laura Sharrad are among the celebrities to be affected by South Australia‘s impending lockdown.

In posts on Instagram on Wednesday, both Laura, 24, and Callum revealed they’d had to cancel events and close their respective culinary businesses in light of the new restrictions.

Both Laura and Callum, 31, appeared as finalists on this year’s season of MasterChef: Back to Win.

Callum runs Sprout Cooking School, and said the school’s classes up until December 13 had all been postponed.

‘The cooking class scheduled for tonight, November 18, is postponed. We could proceed with tonight’s class but we do not want to risk further community transmission for a non-essential service,’ read a post on Sprout’s Instagram page.

They added: ‘We also want to say that despite the enormous impact this is and will have on our business we 100% support the South Australian Government’s decision to impose strict lockdown rules. Nothing matters more than the health and safety of our loved ones.

‘Finally, and most importantly, South Australia, now more than ever we need to come together by staying apart.

‘Look out for each other, stay home and stay strong. We will all be back, this is just a slight deviation from the plan.’

Meanwhile, Laura runs Nido Bar and Pasta restaurant with her husband, fellow chef Max Sharrad.

‘Lockdown 2.0,’ she shared on her personal Instagram Stories, before adding, ‘Stay safe everyone.’

In a post on the restaurant’s Instagram page, they said they were devastated at having to close.   

‘It breaks our hearts to advise you that we will be closed effective immediately for at least the next 6 days…’ they wrote.

‘We are currently unaware of what will happen after our 6 day lockdown, but will keep you updated via socials.

‘We appreciate all your kind messages during this tough time. Stay safe & we can’t wait to welcome you back.’ 

It was announced on Wednesday that South Australia would enter a mandatory six-day lockdown.

The lockdown will come into effect at midnight on Wednesday, and will see all schools, universities, restaurants, cafés, bars and pubs close. 

Exercising outside of the home will be banned, and all people will be required to wear face masks while out in public.

‘We continue to face our biggest test to date. We are going hard and we are going early. Time is of the essence,’ South Australian Premier Steven Marshall said in a statement.
