Designers have revealed plans for a £450million mega-yacht which has been inspired by a shark.

The incredible 501ft long and 112ft wide Prodigium was modelled on the distinctive shape of the marine predator, with fins and a pointed tail.

The vessel, which also took inspiration from Roman architecture, is spread over six levels with an array of luxuries on board.

The Lazzarini design boasts many modern features and even has room for three helicopters and eight jet skis.

It has two garages and two extendable terraces which fold out from the side of the boat like fins and extend to 23ft allowing vessels to be stored on them.

The stylish yacht, which will reach speeds of 22 knots, has a lounge area on its top deck surrounded by impressive marble columns.

The sleek carbon and aluminium vessel also has a ‘private port’ area at its rear which is able to house ‘smaller’ yachts of up to 100ft.

At least 40 guests would be able to stay on the yacht at any one time and they would be looked after by a team of almost 30 staff and crew

On the top deck, if guests want to explore the ocean from a different vantage point, there is room for up to three helicopters at a time.

A spokeswoman for the designers, Lazzarini Designs, said: ‘Prodigium is the second of the nature inspired mega yacht that Mr. Lazzarini is developing the first took its inspiration from a swan.

‘Our latest design takes its inspiration from ancient Roman architecture and parts are also inspired by the shape of sharks.’

Lazzarini’s other design, Avanguardia, stretches more than the length of a football pitch and would set owners back £376 million ($500 million).

This yacht features a sleek ‘neck’ and an elegant body in an attractive layered design, intended to resemble a swan’s wings and feathers.

But just like a swan can move its neck and head, the yacht’s control tower can be moved down towards the water.

The ‘head’ is even detachable and transforms into an auxiliary 50-foot boat.

Passengers invited for a ride on the boat can descend a set of steps on the neck.

Lazzarini's other design, Avanguardia, has also been inspired by an animal, resembling the shape of a swan with a curved neck
