The sad reality of starring on Big Brother: Daniel Gorringe reveals he now works as a chippie after struggling to find fame after the show

Daniel Gorringe finished in third place on Channel Seven’s reboot of Big Brother.

Since the show wrapped in July, the former AFL player has struggled to capitalise on his 15 minutes of fame and now works as a carpenter.

Daniel, 28, told The Babble podcast on Tuesday that Covid-19 had a heavy impact on showbusiness job opportunities after his reality TV stint.

‘I’m a chippie. I’m back on the tools. Obviously with Victoria, with Covid lockdown, it’s been pretty hard to get out and about and start anything, or do anything,’ he said.

He said of joining the reality show: ‘I think for me, going into the Big Brother house, the main thing was wanting to do something that I thoroughly enjoyed, and that was entertaining people and make people laugh.

‘I thought coming out of the house all of these opportunities would open up, but with Covid, it was the total opposite.’

‘Everything just dried up and then I’m still just the same nobody that I am now,’ he added with a laugh.

Daniel, who creates content for social media in addition to his carpentry work, said: ‘On the side, I’m still doing videos and I’ll see where that goes, but it’s all a bit of fun.’

Podcast host Matthew Johnson noted that he could have done down the path of being a full-time Instagram influencer.

Daniel said: ‘I don’t know how they do it. I just can’t do it. I’d love to get out on the beach with the girls, the bikini shots and cafés, but I just don’t have it in me.

‘I got one video a week and that’s stressful enough, I can’t do anymore than that.’

Daniel’s skits on Instagram include various pranks, with his most recent being a joke proposal to his girlfriend, Ana Cannon.
