The 39-year-old has been announced as the host of the new Channel Ten game show, The Cube.

Based on the UK series of the same name, The Cube will see contestants put in a small perspex cube where they must take on a series of tasks in the hopes of winning $250,000.

The tasks can involve anything from throwing and catching challenges to memorising games.

‘Things get tense with me and my mates when we play skill games to determine who’s going to get the next round of beers at the pub, imagine doing it for a quarter of million dollars. I can’t wait,’ Andy said in a statement.

Head of programming at 10 ViacomCBS, Daniel Monaghan, added: ‘Andy Lee is one of the most popular and talented comedians in Australia, and we are thrilled he will host this brilliant series.

‘The Cube has been a huge success in the UK for years, and to bring this edge-of-your-seat game show to Australia for a local prime time version, with Andy Lee no less, is a fantastic addition to our 2021 schedule.’

Andy’s new hosting role will see him placed in direct competition with his colleague, Hamish, who hosts the hugely popular Channel Nine series Lego Masters.

It comes after the pair recalled the ‘panic’ they felt following singer John Butler’s expletive-ridden interview early in their radio career.

Andy explained that the American-Australian musician left them fearing for their jobs as producers had previously told them that ‘if a swear word were to air the licence for the radio station could be revoked’.

Noting that they have since dealt with a lot worse, Andy told News.com.au in October: ‘Hamish and I were recalling that, and when we listened back to it we were like, “That’s actually pretty tame really”.’

Andy continued: ‘Probably through our petrified eyes and ears it would have felt like the worst thing ever to happen.’
