Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn never felt like they needed a marriage certificate

They’ve been together for 37 years, although they never tied the knot.

And both Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn sat down to talk about the secret of their marriage – which they say isn’t a secret at all – to People magazine.

‘You’ve just got to want to be together. I don’t think there’s any way other than do it,’ Goldie, 75, explained.

Kurt, 69, added: ‘For people like us, the marriage certificate wasn’t going to create anything that otherwise we wouldn’t have. I don’t know. 40 years isn’t enough to finally say, “Well I guess….’

Goldie corrected him and said ‘Well, we’re not at 40 years yet.’

The duo welcomed son Wyatt Russell, now 34, together as well as raised their children from preciously marriages – Goldie’s daughter Kate Hudson, 41, and son Oliver Hudson, 44, from her previous marriage to Bill Hudson – and Kurt’s son Boston, 40 with ex wife Season Hubley.

The lovebirds have been together for 37 years – since 1983.

They met on the set of their 1966 film The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band but did not date until they worked together in 1983 on Swing Shift, which was released in 1984.

Goldie said of her children: ‘Our children got married. I mean, they didn’t not get married. Oliver’s very happily married and Wyatt’s very happily married. Kate got married once and that didn’t work, and she’s with the most amazing human and I don’t if she’s marry again.’

Adding: ‘The point is that we all tried marriage and sometimes marriage doesn’t work.’

They have three children together: sons Wilder, 13, and Bodhi, 10, and daughter Rio, seven.

So this is love: The lovebirds have been together for 37 years – since 1983

Kate was married to rocker Chris Robinson from 2000 until they separated and filed for divorce 2006, finalizing their divorce in 2007.

They share a son named Ryder Russell Robinson, 16.

Kate has a son Bingham Hawn Bellamy, nine, with ex fiance Matt Bellamy.

She is in a relationship with Danny Fujikawa since 2016, despite knowing him for over 20 years.

They have a daughter named Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa, two.

Goldie said: ‘It’s okay. It’s not about the marriage. It’s about the people and the relationship, and the will to stay together. And that’s a big one because if you want it, you can have it. You’ve got to give things up, but the joy and the excitement of being together and touching the toes of somebody at night is really a nice feeling.’

The duo are set to reprise their role in The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two; Goldie, who plays Mrs. Claus, was in the 2018 original The Christmas Chronicles only in cameo role.

Kurt is back as Santa Clause in the sequel.

Goldie said she was excited to play her, especially since she wasn’t really defined as a character.

‘She’s always been in the background, making cookies. And now it’s a new world, right? And they gave Mrs. Claus magic, and Kurt was a big part of that as well, of designing the character.’

This is the third time the couple have worked together on screen since they began dating.

The first film they did together while romantically involved was Overboard in 1987, and just the cameo role she did in The Christmas Chronicles.

For the holidays, Goldie says they will focus on remaining grateful for family and love: ‘That feeling of gratitude is important, because it’s good for your brain and your heart and your health. It’s a good thing to pass on.’
