George Michael’s 7-bedroom north London mansion sells for £19million, over TWICE what he paid for it

George Michael’s north London home has sold for £19million – more than twice what he paid for it.

The seven-bedroom pad in The Grove in Highgate village, which was previously let to celebrities for £15,000 a week, has reportedly been snapped up by a ‘local couple’ on the ‘grey market’.

The Wham singer, who died from heart and liver complications on Christmas Day in 2016 aged just 53, paid £7.65million for the property and spent many of his reclusive years there.

He lived there with Kenny Goss, his partner for 13 years until 2009, and the singer’s famous friends regularly gathered there for parties.

Kate Moss, who has a home next door, once revealed she used a ladder to get into his garden so she could have pool parties there with her daughter Lila Grace. Ex-Spice Girl Geri Horner was another regular guest, as were Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp and his wife Shirley.

Land Registry papers show the Grade II listed home was bought by Stephen Cameron and Clare Susan Harrison, who are listed as directors of medical communications firms on Companies House.

There was apparently a lot of interest in the house, which sold for ‘significantly more’ than the asking price.

The buyers are understood to have ‘swooped in’ and gazumped another interested party after hearing through the grapevine that the property was being sold off-market through an agent who was receiving offers after approaching a select pool of wealthy potential purchasers, reports the Evening Standard.

A local agent was stunned by the sale price and estimated its value at closer to £12million.

Another told the publication that the home is unusually modern inside for its street, with a newly renovated kitchen, bathrooms and a well-kept garden with views of Hampstead Heath.

By contrast, chef Jamie Oliver bought a £9 million house on the same street in 2015 and said he had to ‘rip everything out and start again’.

It was previously let by an agency that specialises in hiring out exclusive properties ‘off market’ to the stars. Clients have included Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and singer Rhianna, who rented homes while they were filming in London.

The mansion is just 25 minutes away from the Warner Bros. Studios in Hertfordshire where blockbuster movies such as Harry Potter, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and 007 film, Goldeneye were made.

The Grade II listed semi-detached property, which George bought in 2002, was previously owned by singer Annie Lennox.

It was built in about 1688, with three storeys and a basement, and was subsequently rebuilt in the 1930s.

After George died, fans created a shrine on a patch of grass opposite which was later removed in 2018.

George left the bulk of his £98 million fortune to his sisters Melanie and Yioda.

Last year a source told the Daily Mail that the family didn’t want to let the Highgate home go, and instead ‘want others to enjoy the beautiful house’.

‘Nobody knows which A-lister will be in there yet but it is likely to be somebody really big. It’s the most ideal place, kitted out for celebrities,’ they added.

George’s sister Melanie is believed to have moved into the property after his death, but in a tragic twist of gate, she died there on Christmas Day in 2019, exactly three years after her brother.

The house appears to have been sold by his father Kyriacos Panayiotou.

After his death it emerged George, who is buried in Highgate Cemetery next to his mother, anonymously paid for the Highgate Christmas tree every year and was the largest private sponsor of the local fair.

George also owned a mansion in Goring-on-Thames in Oxfordshire, where he was found dead.

This 16th-century home was sold for £3.4million in July last year to a family which was new to the area, according to the Land Registry.

Fadi Fawaz, who was George’s partner when he died and found his body, continued to live in the singer’s other £5million London home, but was deemed to be ‘squatting’ there after ignoring legal letters to leave.
