Rachel McAdams will reprise her role as Dr. Christine Palmer in Dr. Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

Rachel McAdams will reprise her role as Dr. Christine Palmer in the upcoming sequel to Dr. Strange.

The Academy Award nominated- actress, 42, is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe opposite Benedict Cumberbatch’s surgeon-turned-sorcerer character, according to Deadline.

It is currently unclear how large her role will be.

Marvel declined to comment to the outlet. 

The film, titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, will be directed by Sam Raimi of Spider-Man fame following the January departure of Scott Derrickson due to creative differences.

Derrickson will stay on as an executive producer.

Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor will return to their roles as, respectively, Strange’s fellow sorcerer Wong and Strange’s ally-turned-enemy Karl Mordo.

Baby Sitter’s Clubs Xochitl Gomez is also joining the cast, but it is unclear what her role will be.

Marvel has kept plot details tightly under-wraps for the film, which is set for a 2022 release. 

The Dr. Strange sequel plans to begin shooting in May after the next Spider-Man film, where Cumberbatch will also play Strange, wraps.

Upon its 2016 release, Dr. Strange raked in $677.7million worldwide.
