Suranne Jones joins co-star Sophie Rundle as they film Gentleman Jack in Yorkshire

Suranne Jones was spotted filming Gentleman Jack scenes in West Yorkshire on Thursday alongside her co-star Sophie Rundle.

The actress, 42, who plays Anne Lister in the BBC series, was pictured sporting her character’s trademark three buns hairstyle as she prepared for her scene in the market town of Bingley.

The BAFTA winner appeared ready for the chilly December temperatures as she donned Anne’s black period ankle-length coat with a frilly white skirt underneath and wool gloves.

Also pictured on set was Sophie, 32, who appeared in a vibrant patterned dress and styled her hair into a curled coif, which was held in place with a feather-detailed bonnet.

In between takes, The Bodyguard star happily chatted to Suranne. Sophie was later seen wrapped up in a more modern navy padded jacket while clutching a hot water bottle and her mobile phones.

Scenes looked a little different this time around as members of the crew sported face masks to ensure filming could commence safely.

Gentleman Jack follows Suranne’s character Anne Lister and her love Ann Walker, played by Sophie, in the BBC period drama.

The series is set in Yorkshire in 1834 and is based on the real life diaries of English landowner and diarist Lister.

The new episodes follow Suranne’s character as her love Ann moves in with her at Shibden Hall and the pair embark on their life as wife and wife.

The first series saw Anne and Ann torn apart when Ann was taken to Scotland, under threat of being married off by her brother-in-law.

But the finale saw the pair brought back together when Ann was called back to Yorkshire to visit her bedridden aunt.

Their reunion took place in a dramatic hilltop moment in which Ann revealed she was finally ready to marry Anne.

Anne confessed her continued love for Ann, saying: ‘Do you know I don’t think one hour passed when I didn’t think of you. I tried not to.’

‘If you asked me to marry you again I wouldn’t say No,’ Ann promised. ‘But would you say yes?’ Anne checked quickly.  ‘Yes. I love you,’ the younger girl sighed, touching the heroine’s face. ‘I’m in love with you. I always have been.’

‘Don’t hurt me,’ muttered Lister back, unexpectedly, poignantly. ‘I’m not as strong as you think…Well I am obviously. But sometimes I’m not.’

Last month, Suranne said she was ‘honoured’ to be named Celebrity Ally as she was presented with the gong at The British LGBT Awards 2020, which were held virtually.

The Gentleman Jack star – who won the award after using her platform to promote LGBT+ equality – gave an emotional acceptance speech while in costume, with her hair in three buns.

Speaking via video for the virtual ceremony, held in association with NatWest, the actress said: ‘I just want to say a huge thank you. I am so thrilled and honoured to receive the Ally Of The Year Award.

‘It’s so special to be accepted by your community, and for me to stand by your side and be part of your community.

‘I’m really touched. It’s just a wonderful, wonderful award to receive. And I will continue to be your ally for as long as you’ll have me…

‘I know we can’t all be together but it’s so important that these awards go on, and that the nominees are honoured and a light is shone upon them in this way.’
