Christopher Walken makes the surprising admission that he has never owned a cell phone or a computer

Christopher Walken has been making the press rounds for his new movie Wild Mountain Thyme, making a rather shocking admission that he has never owned a cell phone or a computer.

The 77-year-old actor appeared via Zoom on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote the movie, when he admitted someone had to set up the interview for him.

‘Yeah, somebody had to come and set this up because I don’t have a cellphone or a computer,’ Walken said.

When asked if he was, ‘morally, philosophically, emotionally opposed’ to the technological devices, the Oscar-nominated actor had a much simpler answer.

‘No, no. I just got to it too late. I think I’m right at a certain age where it just passed me by,’ Walken said.

He told Colbert that he ‘never got involved in it’ because it would be ‘strange to have any 10-year-old be better at it than I am.’

‘The other thing is cell phones, and that sort of thing, is a little bit like a watch. If you need one, somebody else has got it,’ he added.

Walken added that people are, ‘very nice about letting me borrow things,’ before confirming he has never sent an email or a text message, and he has never been on Twitter.

He did confirm, though, that sometimes when he’s filming a movie, the production will give him a cell phone, ‘but it’s more so that they can find me.’

The Oscar-winning actor added that, ‘if I ever want to use it, someone has to dial it for me, that sort of thing.’

Walken conducted the interview from his home in Connecticut, and when asked what’s something people would be surprised to learn he has in his home, he said he has a room full of memorabilia, including one interesting item: Muhammad Ali’s boxing trunks.

Walken explained that Ali once had a touring act, and he was working at a theater in Canada where Ali came through with his show.

‘He left his auction trunks to be auctioned for charity for the theaters. I went and I got them,’ Walken said.

He added that they were inscribed, ‘Muhammad Ali, 1971, The Real Champ,’ which was at a time when he wasn’t allowed to box because he was a conscientious objector to the Vietnam War.

Walken added that he sat next to him one time at a movie premiere, and after the movie he called him a ‘pretty boy’ though he wasn’t sure if that was a compliment or not.
