Made In Chelsea’s Miles Nazaire addresses mysterious disappearance from latest series

Fans were left confused as Made In Chelsea‘s 20th series came and went this year without an appearance from cast member Miles Nazaire.

And more baffling still was the unexplained absence – especially with Miles’ penchant for sharing his daily comings and goings on Instagram.

But the 25-year-old has lifted the lid on the situation, now that the series has come to a close.

‘I did it for my mental health!’ Made In Chelsea’s Miles Nazaire has addressed his mysterious disappearance from the latest series… and teased a return in 2021

During a chat on FUBAR Radio’s Access All Areas with hosts Bobby Norris and Stephen Leng, Miles explained that he took a break for his mental health.

‘Series 19 was really tough for me because of my ex [Maeva D’Ascanio] and my ex best mate [James Taylor] at the time,’ he said, addressing the fact that the pair are now in a long-term relationship.

He went on: ‘I’d gone through a lot of things and coming to series 20, when we went into the first lockdown, I kind of took it as an excuse to take some time off. I’d been on the show for two years and a bit and I was like, ‘okay well, I think mentally, for me, if I want to continue to be on this show.’

‘You know I didn’t say, ‘goodbye!’ I was like, ‘look I just need to take a step back, reassess myself, make sure that I’m grounding myself with really good people around me. And then, when I do come back, I feel like, you know, it’s a better version of myself’.’

He continued: ‘So that’s what I did, I was like, look I’m going to take this opportunity to actually say, ‘hey guys! Go ahead, smash it. Enjoy series 20. I’m just gonna go and do my thing for a bit, and then I’ll come back’. So that’s what I’ve done.’

When asked whether the show were okay with his decision, he explained: ‘I think at the first stage, when I did say it, they didn’t really understand. I think they were like, ‘oh no, can you dip in and out? Can you do this?’ And they were still asking me to, you know.

‘It is very hard to detach yourself sometimes because you have given so much of your life on that show to completely say, not goodbye but completely say, ‘look, guys, give me a break you know?”

He continued: ‘If you are a big foundation on the show, they want you to be present. And I love that, you know. It’s always lovely to know that you’re wanted and you have a big part on the show.

‘But I think we had a lot of back and forth and it got to one meeting where I was like, ‘look guys I’m going to be completely honest with you. I just need to do this for my mental health. I just need to have this step back.’

‘And as soon as I said that, they completely understood. They went like, ‘okay look, you know, enjoy this. And hopefully, please come back’. And I was like, ‘okay, we’ll chat to you in the new year.”

Explaining the effects on his mental health, Miles noted: ‘I find it really funny because a lot of people who watch reality, they go, ‘oh that’s an easy life!’ And don’t get me wrong, there are some huge perks of being on reality TV, literally. And I would never say a bad word about it because I wouldn’t be here today and I love it!

Of returning to the show for series 21, which is set to air in the first half of 2021 depending on COVID-19 restrictions, Miles said: ‘So, I don’t know how much I am allowed to say. I’m not going to lie, yeah, I’m thinking of definitely coming back.

‘I’ve had a very nice kind of open conversation with the show last week. You know, they are talking about the new series and yeah I think that, hopefully, there might be a return of Miles on the show. That’s all I’m saying.’

Whilst having some time off from the show, Miles has been dating and because of the lockdown restrictions, decided to turn to online dating: ‘2020, dating has been a tricky one… I think for singles it was hard because the whole thing about being single is that you can go out and, you know, have amazing experiences, and meet new people.

‘Here lockdown was like, ‘okay so how am I going to start dating? What is the way to do it?’ And I think everyone just went to virtual dates and that was the main kind of focus, right?

‘So, it was tricky but it was nice to experience like, because I’ve never really virtually dated. I’ve never really gone on dating apps before until now… It’s a new ball game.

‘So it was fun to kind of discover that and see how you can meet someone through even like video chat and all that kind of stuff. So, it was interesting for sure.’

Miles used app Badoo largely due to their video chat and voice memo functions.

‘I’m very visual so for me like just texting someone isn’t really the right way forward,’ he said. ‘Like, I like to see someone. And I’d rather actually on the first, you know, I say date, virtual date, is to go straight in with a video call and say, ‘hey this is me! This is how untidy I am with my room’ and who knows!’

When asked what it was like doing a video call with a stranger, Miles noted: ‘It was really weird because loads of people had different mindsets of how to video call.

‘So, you would have a lot of people who would be really relaxed and be in their casual clothes, comfies, which is a little bit of me, and I love to be in comfy clothes.

‘But there’s a lot of people who would like really put a huge effort in! Which was like really nice because obviously, when you normally go on a date, you suit up or, you know, you wear really nice stuff you put your make up on and all this.

‘And it was really nice to see girls actually properly doing themselves up and have like a real date, I guess, on camera.’

He added: ‘It was one of those, I was wearing a shirt and then just my boxers underneath. That’s what it was.’
