She has remained coy about her love life since her split from Stormzy last year.

Yet Maya Jama opens up about her recent dating history during an upcoming appearance on the Jonathan Ross show this Saturday.

The TV and radio presenter, 26, admits that she avoided dating lockdown because she finds Zoom dates ‘too intense’ as there is ‘no escape’.

During her appearance on the show alongside, Tyson Fury, Dame Joan Collins and Russell Kane, Maya says: ‘I didn’t Zoom date. I think a Zoom date is way more intense than a normal date. There’s no escape. You’re stuck.I didn’t do any dates.’

She also discussed speculation surrounding her love life, and says: ‘It’s a weird thing… Any time I take a picture with a guy when we’ve been working or doing a job, it’s ‘Oh my god we must be dating’, this whole thing.

‘Anyone that’s single, [people put] two and two together, it’s like, no way could they be friends. It just gets awkward. In real life I’ve got 50% male friends, 50% women.

‘Do I not want to post my male friends just in case they’re going to be my ‘potential lover’? None of them are actually real. I’m actually really, really, really single.’

Of her acting ambitions, Maya says: ‘I’m trying to be an actress. I’m having a go. I’ve tried lessons.’

She adds: ‘I’ve always had that love for acting… I made my Netflix debut [in The Duchess]. I’ve had a few auditions. Not successful though.

‘I auditioned for Will Farrell’s Eurovision film. He’s an icon to me. They wanted me to play an Italian role. I’m not Italian at all.’

Earlier this week Maya revealed she’s landed her first movie role on Sunday Brunch.

The broadcaster explained how she was scheduled to start filming for the top-secret project in April, but was unable to kick off production due to the coronavirus pandemic.

DJ Maya, who has become one of the most recognised presenters in the UK, surprised hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer when she said she missed out on a part in E4’s Skins months before she moved from Bristol to London as a teenager.

Teasing details behind about her upcoming portrayal as a ‘shy girl’, the TV and radio star said: ‘I am supposed to be doing a film but because of Covid everything has been pushed back.

‘It was supposed to be in April then it got moved to the next month, next month, and now fingers crossed February.

‘It’s secret-y at the moment but I am playing somebody really shy that’s the opposite to me and it’s in the Caribbean, so that’s why it can’t go ahead. So those are my two clues but I don’t know if I am allowed to give out anything else.

‘As a presenter you spend so much time just being yourself and coming across as yourself on camera, transitioning into acting, it’s like, ”Now be someone just completely different,” which is really hard.

The Mij Masks founder, who recently made a brief appearance in Katherine Ryan’s Netflix series The Duchess, elaborated: ‘Now I am like, ”This is a good time for me to try.. I spoke to Katherine about it.

‘She was like, ”I am doing this series.” So I do my little audition and got the role of Sandra. It was a small role but hopefully there is more from that. Scary though.’
