Renee Zellweger runs errands in LA ahead of 25th anniversary documentary of Bridget Jones’s Diary

Renee Zellweger is taking care of business ahead of the weekend.

On Friday the 51-year-old Hollywood darling was seen moving some heavy looking boxes that were piled high, before treating herself to a smoothie in Los Angeles

Becoming a household name in the film Bridget Jones’s Diary, based off the 1996 novel by Helen Fielding, the outing comes a week before a new documentary to celebrate the character’s 25th anniversary is set to air.

Heavy lifting: Renee Zellweger, 51, takes care of business as she drops off some heavy-looking packages and grabs a smoothie in LA ahead of the release of the Bridget Jones’s Diary 25th anniversary documentary

Best known for her role as the chain-smoking heroine who documents her disastrous romantic life in a diary, Zellweger looked the opposite of character as she seemed to have it all together.

Dressed down in some baggy grey cargo pants  and a hooded zip-up, she looked ready to get her hands dirty as she made her way with packages.

With a pair of weatherproof brown snow boots on her feet – despite the arid Los Angeles climate – and her hair tucked under a baseball cap, she was on the move and tried not to drop her goods.

After putting in some sweat equity she swung by a juice shop and picked up a berry-looking smoothie.

Next week BBC2 will be airing the much anticipated documentary, Being Bridget, to celebrate the iconic character which has become synonymous with outspoken sexual candor.

Speaking about similarities between she and the character, Zellweger speaks in the program about her ‘Bridget alter ego’:

‘All the things that you would most like not to have in common with Bridget are the things that I find I relate to most closely.’

‘I’ve had moments when I feel like I’m sitting beside myself watching my Bridget alter ego just spiralling, circling the drain,’ she said.

In the tell-all documentary, Zellweger who faced rumors of plastic surgery, spoke about the pressures women face when it comes to beauty standards.

Saying that she can relate to Bridget’s bodily struggles and the pressure to find a man she said:

‘She struggles with it and she tries and she fails, like all of us. What it boils down to in the end is self acceptance,’ while emphasizing the absurdity of focusing on weight and unrealistic expectations.

Shutting down plastic surgery rumors in a 2019 Vulture interview she added, ‘I don’t look at beauty in that way. And I don’t think of myself in that way. I like my weird quirkiness, my off-kilter mix of things. It enables me to do what I do. I don’t want to be something else.’

As a single woman with no children (she split from boyfriend of seven years Doyle Bramhall II in 2019), she speaks of the judgement women endure when it comes to romantic relationships.

‘If you’re not cherished by someone, if a man doesn’t find you and treasure you, then your worth somehow comes into question. It’s just the reality of being a lady.’

Her journey as Bridget played out in the titular 2001 film as well as 2004 spin-off Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, and 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby.

Rumors continue to swirl that a fourth film is in the works as she said on The Talk last year, ‘I know Helen’s written the book, and I love this character. So, I mean, if they call me, I’ll go running.’
