  • A man was attacked outside Marks and Spencer on Basnett Street in Liverpool
  • Mobile phone footage shows two men kicking and punching victim on Sunday
  • Police were called to the scene at 5.40pm and are attempting to trace the men

This is the moment two men attacked a man outside a store in Liverpool city centre yesterday, in front of horrified Christmas shoppers.

Mobile phone footage shows two men kicking and punching the man outside a branch of Marks and Spencer.

Shoppers tried to protect the victim from the men in the doorway of the food hall by screaming at the attackers.

The man is hit multiple times and backed up against the M&S shop window where he falls to the ground.

His attackers continue their vicious assault, punching him and kicking him back down to the ground when he tries to get up.

Eventually, the two attackers walk away from the victim, but return to hurl abuse at him. A group of shoppers then scream at the men to go away.

One of the attackers appears to chant ‘Manchester, Manchester ‘ at the crowd before walking away.

The violence appeared to flare after a verbal exchange between the victim and a group of three other men.

Police said they were called to the scene at around 5.40pm on Sunday but the men had left the scene by the time the officers arrived.

The force has now appealed for anyone with information about what happened to get in touch with them.
