Strictly’s Jamie Laing cuts casual figure in baseball jacket on errand run

He narrowly missed out on lifting the Strictly Come Dancing Glitterball trophy after he was beaten by champions Bill Bailey and his pro partner Oti Mabuse.

And Jamie Laing was spotted out-and-about for the first time since Saturday’s Strictly final as he ran errands in London‘s Notting Hill on Monday.

The Made In Chelsea star, 32, cut a casual figure in black jeans and a grey hoodie as he got ready to set off on his bright red Vespa scooter.

Back to reality: Jamie Laing was spotted out-and-about for the first time since missing out on Strictly Come Dancing victory as he ran errands in Notting Hill on Monday

He bundled up from the chilly winter weather in a black baseball jacket and completed his attire with a simple pair of white trainers.

Jamie added a dash of colour to his attire with a sky blue beanie and hid his signature peroxide blonde crewcut under the cozy hat.

The TV personality put safety first as he traded in his beanie for a black motorcycle helmet before riding off on his bike.

His errand run was his first public sighting since he narrowly missed out on Strictly victory as comedian Bill, 55, was crowned as the oldest winner in the show’s history.

Jamie gushed about the 2020 winner while appearing on Monday morning’s BBC  Breakfast from his flat in Chelsea, praising Bill for his dedication and humility.

He said: ‘Bill Bailey winning Strictly Come Dancing is the best Christmas present I could ever ask for. He is a hero. One of the nicest funniest people I know, one of the nicest people I know.

‘He worked so hard. We used to train into 6 or 7 in the evening. He would be staying on until 9 or 10 in the evening. An amazing guy and such an achievement.’

Jamie admitted it was ‘incredible’ to be given a second chance after injuring himself before the 2019 series properly got underway, and joked about the four dance-offs he found himself in.

He said: ‘I hurt my foot last year, and then doing it this year was incredible. But I also feel good because I did four dance-offs. A full series in normally 14 weeks, so including my dance-offs I did a full series, so I’m incredibly happy, I’m chuffed.

Looking to the future, the Made In Chelsea star admitted: ‘In the nicest way possible I will be jealous of anyone who ever gets to do it [Strictly] because it’s a magical experience, it’s tough.

‘You have to strap yourself in because it’s hard and it’s nerve-wracking but it’s incredibly fulfilling, it’s amazing, it’s beautiful. It’s just a great show, an amazing show. And I’ll miss it.’

The funnyman playfully revealed that he’d considered injuring himself in the final in a bid to return in 2021.

Jamie joked: ‘I was thinking in the last thing, If I injure myself in the final, does that mean I get to come back next year? If I just undo this harness right now and see if I fall…

‘Doing it one years, doing it two years… It is incredible. It’s a really great show. And Bill Bailey. Bill Bailey won Strictly Come Dancing – how amazing is that?’

Turning his attention to the difficulty of putting on a huge prime time television show during a pandemic, Jamie branded the crew behind the scenes ‘the real heroes’.

He admitted: ‘I think the celebrities and pros get all the glory – and in fact what we do is just turn up on stage and do a dance.

‘The real heroes are the band, the producers, the lighting crew – everyone behind the camera – there’s lots and lots of people.

‘To put on this show in general is hard, let alone in a pandemic. and it is unbelievable they’ve done this. Fantastic.’

And speaking about his Christmas plans amid top level restrictions in London and the south east of England, Jamie revealed he hasn’t told his mother, Penny Baines, that he won’t be coming home.

Jamie explained: ‘I’m stuck like everyone else. I was planning on going to my mum’s and I was gonna spend Christmas with the family, but I don’t think that’s going to happen now, unfortunately.

‘But it’s happening for a lot of people. It’s just one of those years. We’ve been topped off with this tier 4 situation and we have to just kind of go with it I suppose.

‘It’s really upsetting. Everyone wants to see their families. It’s Christmas time. It’s a time to be together. I’m here in the flat in London and that’s what it looks like what it’s going to be like at the moment.’

The Candy Kittens founder, who lives with girlfriend Sophie Habbo, admitted he’s not told his mother that he won’t be coming home for Christmas, but insisted: ‘I think she understands.

‘We were meant to be having different families coming over but it’s just too hard. It’s too complicated. It’s too concerning to risk anything. It’s just staying in London.’
