Coronation Street SPOILER: Simon Barlow horrified as he finds mum Leanne Battersby unconscious next to a bottle of sleeping pills

Coronation Street spoilers reveal that Leanne Battersby is set to be found unconscious on the sofa next to a bottle of sleeping pills.

Her son Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) is left horrified as he lets himself into the flat to find her passed out, swiftly calling the ambulance to help.

In New Year’s scenes, Leanne, played by Jane Danson, is left struggling in the wake of the death of her youngest son Oliver, who sadly lost his battle with mitochondrial disease.

Upcoming episodes will see Leanne facing the prospect of a lonely Christmas she she isolates herself alone after pretending to everyone that she had headed to France to visit mum Stella and sister Eva. 

The character has pushed all her loved ones away as she struggled to cope with her grief following the death of little Oliver. 

As the New Year begins, Leanne is paid a visit from Dr Gaddas (Christine Mackie) after she requests more sleeping pills.

Dr Gaddass is alarmed by the state of Leanne’s flat when she arrives, but reluctantly gives Leanne the pills she wants, but arranges for her to have another doctor’s appointment at a later date.

Desperate for some shut eye, Leanne takes two pills and lays down on a sofa for a nap.

But when Simon lets himself in to get himself ready for a date with Kelly Neelan, he’s shocked to find his mum unresponsive.

Luckily, she regains consciousness and assures Simon that she she took one pill too many and didn’t intend to harm herself.

With Simon worried, Leanne also reluctantly admits that she never actually made it to France and had been hiding out in her flat instead.

The teenager takes it upon himself to look after his mum and cancels his date with Kelly.

But when Nick arrives and questions the ambulance, Simon lies and covers for Leanne so she can continue keeping a low profile. 

But just how long can Simon keep his mum’s dark secret for?

The emotional scenes air Friday 8th January at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
