Liam Payne says welcoming his son Bear, three, has ‘reignited’ his love for ‘hollow’ Christmas and brought a new meaning to the holiday

He welcomed his only child, Bear, in 2017 with his ex-partner Cheryl Tweedy

And Liam Payne said that becoming a father to his three-year-old son made him fall in love with Christmas again and has ‘reignited’ the festivities.

The 27-year-old singer admitted the time of year has ‘always felt a little bit hollow’ to him in the past, but he now understands the true meaning of the holiday.

That’s the spirit! Liam Payne admitted that welcoming his son Bear, three, has ‘reignited’ his love for ‘hollow’ Christmas as he now understands the true meaning of the holiday

He said during an interview with People: ‘For me, it really reignited Christmas. I moved away from home at 17, so Christmas kind of took on a new meaning.

‘It was great to be able to shower people with gifts and make everybody feel welcome, but Christmas always felt a little bit hollow for some reason. Now he’s kind of filled that hole for me and I understand it all over again.’

While Bear was previously too young to fully understand the festive day, Liam confirmed he now ‘completely gets it’ and loves watching Christmas movies.

He added: ‘He completely gets it now! He’s been watching Home Alone and “Merry Christmas, you filthy animal,” was one of his first phrases,’ which Liam confirmed is ‘absolutely hilarious’.

Ex-partner Cheryl, 37, confirmed she will be spending Christmas with Liam so they can both enjoy the day with their son amid the pandemic.

The celebrities, who dated for two and a half years, have been happily co-parenting since their split in June 2018.

Prior to the updated Tier 4 restrictions to London and surrounding areas, she spoke to Jessie Ware on her Table Manners podcast about her festive plans.

She said: ‘It’ll probably just be me, my mum and Liam. My mam makes a great roast, and Liam normally does the meat on Christmas. He’s really good at it actually and puts his all into it.

‘We watch Home Alone the movie. Both [films], I always play them back to back. I love it. I think it’s because it reminds me of when I was a kid.

‘I love mulled wine. I like everybody to wear the same PJs on Christmas eve night … This year we’re going to have Disney ones.’

It is unclear whether the friendly exes still plan on meeting up for the celebratory occasion following Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s U-turn on COVID-19 limits.

The former Girls Aloud singer also revealed Bear’s list for Santa Claus, and admitted he’s been receiving gifts from loved ones ‘each month’ due to the past nationwide lockdowns.

Cheryl continued: ‘He wants a Spiderman bike, which is very doable. He also wants Paw Patrol stuff.

‘You know what’s crazy? Because his birthday was in March during lockdown, I feel like Christmas has been every month because people have either sent his gift or brought it when they could. Every month someone has brought him something for his birthday!’
