The Haunting Of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan says ‘there are no plans for more chapters’ of the anthology after lackluster reception of Bly Manor

The first series generated substantial buzz and scared Netflix viewers out of their wits in 2018.

But Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan dashed the hopes of fans of the anthology series who were wondering about a potential third season followup to this year‘s Haunting of Bly Manor.

Writing in a tweet on Wednesday morning, Flanagan, 42, answered a viewer who asked, ‘any chance of another chapter of Haunting in the future?’

‘At the moment there are no plans for more chapters,’ he wrote.

‘Never say never, of course, but right now we are focused on a full slate of other @intrepid projects for 2021 and beyond. If things change we will absolutely let everyone know!’

Intrepid is the handle for Intrepid Pictures, a production company founded in 2004 currently co-run by Flanagan, which has produced feature films such as his directorial effort from last year Doctor Sleep.

2018’s The Haunting Of Hill House, loosely based on Shirley Jackson’s book of the same name, starred Henry Thomas, Carla Gugino, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel and Victoria Pedretti.

The series received stellar reviews from both critics and viewers alike, netting a 93 and 91 percent, respectively, for critic composite score and average audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

This year’s The Haunting Of Bly Manor starred the same group of actors playing different roles, in a dark gothic love story loosely based on Henry James’ 1898 ghost story The Turn Of The Screw.

The latest installment, while still somewhat managing to impress critics, disappointed viewers who generally thought it far too slow.

Bly Manor managed an 87 percent critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but the series’ audience score fell all the way to 62 percent.

But even if the prospect of new Haunting chapters seems unlikely, more material from Flanagan and Intrepid is indeed on the horizon: Deadline reports that Intrepid Pictures signed an exclusive overall TV deal with Netflix last year.
