Tom Hanks appears on the Today show after last visit sparked Covid-19 outbreak

No hard feelings! Tom Hanks appears on the Today show… after his last visit to the Sydney studio with wife Rita Wilson sparked a Covid-19 outbreak

Channel Nine’s former headquarters in Willoughby, Sydney, was the site of a Covid-19 scare in March when actor Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, tested positive for the respiratory virus after visiting the Today Extra studio.

But it seems the network doesn’t hold a grudge against the Hollywood couple, as Today aired an interview with the two-time Oscar winner on Thursday.

Looking back at their best entertainment stories of the year, the Today show team chose a segment featuring the Cast Away star.

He’s back! The Today show aired an interview with Oscar winner Tom Hanks on Thursday. The actor and his wife, Rita Wilson, had tested positive for Covid-19 after visiting the Today Extra studio back in March, which resulted in about 20 Nine staffers going into quarantine

Speaking to host Allison Langdon, Tom revealed how he’d gifted a bullied Australian boy named Corona an aptly branded Corona typewriter.

‘I must say he is the first young man I have met with the name of Corona,’ he said.

‘And, lo and behold, I did take one typewriter down to Australia with me down to Australia and it was a Corona, so I think that typewriter needed to be in his hands.’

Tom and Rita’s Covid-19 diagnosis in March resulted in about 20 Nine staffers going into quarantine, including entertainment editor Richard Wilkins, who tested positive after meeting Rita following her performance at the Sydney Opera House.

Announcing the news via Instagram March 11, Tom wrote: ‘Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too.
