Sam Armytage, Richard Lavender wedding: Sunrise fails to mention New Year’s Eve nuptials

Sam Armytage’s celebrity friends rushed to congratulate her on social media after she married millionaire Richard Lavender on New Year’s Eve.

But for some reason there was no mention of the nuptials on Sunrise, the Channel Seven breakfast show she has co-hosted since 2013.

There wasn’t a segment dedicated to the wedding on Friday’s program, which was fronted by fill-in hosts Mark Beretta and Edwina Bartholomew.

Viewers who had tuned in hoping for exclusive photos or video of the wedding were no doubt left disappointed when it wasn’t featured.

They may have to wait another week, or until Sam returns to the news desk alongside co-anchor David ‘Kochie’ Koch for the start of the 2021 ratings year.

While Sunrise didn’t cover Sam’s wedding, 7News.com.au did publish several articles about the ceremony in its entertainment section.

Of course, there’s no doubt the Channel Seven family is absolutely thrilled for Sam.

Edwina was among the dozens of network stars who congratulated her on Instagram after she tied the knot, as did Angie Asimus, who was on Friday’s Sunrise panel.

Sam, who can be notoriously private likes to keep her personal life, may well have asked her colleagues not to make a big deal about her nuptials.

More to come? Viewers who'd tuned in hoping for exclusive coverage of the wedding were no doubt left disappointed when it wasn't featured. They may have to wait another week, or until Sam returns to the news desk alongside David Koch for the start of the 2021 ratings year

When Sam announced her engagement to Richard back in June, Kochie and the team congratulated her live on air the next day, and she seemed a little embarrassed by the attention.

Interestingly, Channel Nine’s Today show aired a whole segment about co-host Karl Stefanovic’s wedding to shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough in December 2018.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Channel Seven for comment.

It comes after Sam furiously hit back at a report alleging her future at Channel Seven’s top-rating breakfast show was uncertain.

She was the subject of a column in a Nine-owned newspaper in December which claimed her position at the network was ‘one of the biggest question marks of 2021’.

Sam denied the allegations and accused the journalist who authored the piece, Andrew Hornery, of doing a hatchet job on her because Sunrise had beaten Nine’s Today show in the ratings.

The Sun-Herald column noted that ‘a question mark hangs over’ Samantha’s future at Seven, with 2021 perhaps being the year when her priorities shift from her career to ‘marriage and starting a family’ with Richard.

Mr Hornery pointed out that Sam had been through a ‘rough few months in her personal life this year’, including the death of her mother, Libby.

He added that she’d faced some professional hurdles, too, including taking a 20 per cent pay cut in response to the Covid-19 recession and abruptly parting ways with her agent, Nick Fordham, in November.

But the allegation that perhaps stung the most was the claim that her once-close friendship with Sunrise executive producer Michael Pell was becoming strained.

A Sydney Morning Herald spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia last month: ‘We stand by Andrew Hornery’s story.’ Channel Seven declined to comment at the time.
