A pensioner has revealed her stress-free secret for taking down her Christmas tree – and she even leaves the decorations on.

At the end of the festive period, Larraine McDougall, 71, from Newbiggin-by-the-see, Northumberland, wraps her entire Christmas tree in cling film.

All the decorations on the £80 B&Q fake fir tree, including baubles, are left on when the tree is wrapped up.

The cling filmed tree is then put in the garage ready for use again in 11 months and Larraine has been tidying her tree away using this method for the last four years.

Putting away the tree this way saves Larraine time each year when the time comes to get it out again.

Pictures of Larraine’s ingenious hack were shared on Facebook by her daughter Trudy McDougall Alexander, 42.

Trudy said: ‘It started when she moved house one December so she did it to move her tree into her new home.

‘She used to spend hours putting them all up and taking them down again.

‘She loves her Christmas tree but dreaded how much time she spent on it.’

Trudy hoped that by sharing the pictures of her mother wrapping her tree up, she could cheer people up because the coronavirus pandemic has caused ‘nothing but sadness and depression to a lot of people’.

In her Facebook post, Trudy said: ‘My mother is 71 now and doesn’t like wasting time, so a quick wrap and straight in the garage.

‘Five mins and tree down five mins and its back up.

‘Anyone else do this?’

Trudy’s original social media post was well received, with more than 17,000 people leaving likes and comments.

When asked how her mother was reacting to the response her tree-wrapping hack had received, Trudy said her mother ‘cannot believe it’.
