‘Seething’ Amanda Holden shares bikini snap as she slams government’s ‘delayed’ decision to test people coming into UK for COVID and reveals ‘hard’ call to cancel her ‘safe’ trip

Amanda Holden took to Instagram on Friday morning to share a throwback picture of herself in a bikini as she slammed the government.

Hearing that people now travelling into the UK must present a negative COVID test or risk a £500 fine, the TV star, 49, questioned why this was only happening now.

Wearing a teal bikini and a cover up in her beach post, she fumed over having to cancel her own ‘safe’ Boxing Day trip amid the coronavirus pandemic, due to a ‘lack of common sense.’

As the UK remains in a tough national lockdown, which could last until March 31, Amanda wrote: ‘Throwback pic. I cancelled my holiday on #BoxingDay .. it was hard.

‘But I was flying with a negative test and everything was in place for a safe holiday with my family. WHY THEN, ARE THE UK ONLY JUST making the decision to test for covid for people coming into our country??

‘We’ve all sacrificed so much in different ways… most of us have been responsible.

‘Had so much good will and respect for each other. Joined together and marched on through this… it’s made me seethe this morning hearing it on the news -the  senseless year of neglect of Government rules at our borders… ‘

She continued: ‘Other countries have done it before us. Why has it taken us so long? No one seems to have an answer… or be questioning it?!! Surely this could have prevented the increase of the spread?!!!

‘;#Staysafe and try and keep patient and calm despite the lack of common sense being afforded to us ♥️.’

Her post came as it was announced that Britons may be stranded abroad as ministers say travellers will be banned from entering the UK within days if they do not have proof they are clear of coronavirus.

Passengers will be banned from entering the UK next week if they do not have a negative test within 72 hours of departure.

But there are concerns in the travel industry some will be stuck on holiday because many destinations – such as Barbados – do not have testing facilities.

It is expected to cause a scramble for return flights as around 100,000 Brits are currently away in hotspots such as Dubai and the Maldives.

Ministers agreed the strict measures last night amid growing pressure to tighten borders – but have not confirmed a start date, although it is expected to be next week.

They will apply to Britons and foreign nationals in a bid to keep out infections and mutant strains such as the one in South Africa. The curbs could come in next week.
