Jessica Campbell, who co-starred with Reese Witherspoon in Election then became a physician, dies at age 38 after passing out in a bathroom as COVID-19 is suspected

Jessica Campbell reportedly died at the age of 38 in late December. 

The actress, who is best known for co-starring with Reese Witherspoon in the indie hit 1999 film Election, was complaining of congestion before passing out in a bathroom, her family told TMZ on Wednesday.

It is not yet known what she died from as COVID-19 is suspected. The results of an autopsy by the Multnomah County Medical Examiner have not yet been shared by her family.

IMDB.com claimed she passed away on December 29, 2020. 

The Oklahoma native leaves behind a 10-year-old son Oliver and her husband of 11 years, Daniel.

Jessica was in Portland, Oregon at the time of her death. 

Campbell was visiting her mother and aunt when she went into the bathroom and never came out, her cousin Sarah Wessling told the site.

Her aunt went to the bathroom to check on Jessica and saw her passed out on the floor.

She tried to revive the former actress but she could not get her to respond.

When EMTs arrive they tried as well, according to the site, but were not successful,

Earlier that day Jessica had told her family she felt congested and thought she was getting a cold but did not think it was COVID-19.

Before visiting her family, she had put in a full day of work as a naturopathic physician; that involved seeing patients at her practice. 

She had given up acting several years ago and was working as a naturopathic physician. Naturopathy is a form of alternative medicine that employs an array of pseudoscientific practices branded as natural, non-invasive, or promoting self-healing.

The Alexander Payne film was about an type-A student, played by Reese, who tries to manipulate her way into becoming school president. Broderick’s character, a teacher named Jim, feels she is not playing fair, and gets the popular athlete, played by Klein, to run against her.

Jessica also starred on the hit TV show Freaks And Geeks.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help her son, TMZ shared. Freaks And Geeks producer Judd Apatow has already donated $5,000.

The family told the site that Jessica has been cremated and ‘they are planning a memorial.’
