Amy Schumer calls the whole Hilaria Baldwin heritage controversy ‘insane and entertaining’

Amy Schumer is talking about her role in the ‘insane’ drama surrounding Hilaria Baldwin and her exaggerated Spanish roots.

The comic, 39, got caught up in the controversy after sharing several snaps poking fun and the fitness guru/mother-of-five for claiming to be from Spain when she was actual born in Boston.

But Amy made it clear she only had love for Mrs. Baldwin, 37, telling Entertainment Tonight: ‘She is amazing and I wish her and her family the best. And I hope she gets to visit Spain as much as she wants.’

Chiming in: Amy Schumer (above 2019) offered her two-cents on the whole Hilaria Baldwin controversy over her psuedo-Spanish heritage after accidentally becoming embroiled in the whole mess after several Instagram jokes

Asked about the whole ordeal, Schumer said: ‘Oh my god, I really don’t even know what to say. I didn’t know that was going to happen, obviously.’

Making light of the situation, she went on ‘I feel like it was so insane and entertaining that I think Hilaria is probably the only person who is happy about the insurrection in the Capitol, because it distracted [people] from that.’

‘She is amazing and I wish her and her family the best,’ she added. ‘And I hope she gets to visit Spain as much as she wants.’

Amy first teased Hilaria late last year, reposting a shot of the yogi in lingerie holding her infant son, something while the I Feel Pretty actress said she ‘just thought it was funny.’

‘It’s a little insane to be in, like, lingerie with your baby. I just thought that was a little funny, and then I saw that she made a video and she seemed a little bit upset,’ Schumer remembered.

‘Not at me, but about the comments she was getting. I was just like, “I don’t want to be mean,” and she seemed like maybe it hurt her feelings, so I just took it down.’

Though Amy and Hilaria were able to come to an understanding, Schumer couldn’t help but have some fun after Baldwin was called out for misrepresenting her Spanish heritage.

‘We were just playing with each other, and then the whole Spain thing came out,’ Amy continued, explaining the logic behind another Hilaria-inspired Instagram post.

‘I just felt like everybody else watching it. Just like, “What is going on?” I thought we were still kinda playing, so I wrote, “Hey, look, I love Spain too.” But then it became this whole big thing and people were really upset so I just took it down [too].’

Amy realized quickly she wanted to be taken ‘out of the narrative.’

‘Look, she’s a mom. She has a million and a half kids, and that’s really hard,’ Schumer laughed.

‘So I just — I don’t want them to be going through a bad time. But also, you can’t just pretend you’re from Spain,’ she reasoned.

Earlier this month the Baldwin family was rattled upon accusations Hilaria faked her Spanish accent, while pretending to be from Majorca, Spain, when she’s actually from Boston

The social media frenzy began with a tweet that read: ‘You have to admire Hilaria Baldwin’s commitment to her decade long grift where she impersonates a Spanish person.’

Baldwin has since responded to accusations that she ‘faked’ her Spanish accent and heritage, as she posted a video to Instagram, stating: ‘Yes, I am a white girl. I am a white girl.’
