Two British Army soldiers are arrested in Berkshire by Metropolitan Police’s Flying Squad on suspicion of firearms offences

Two soldiers were arrested in separate police raids on properties in Berkshire, on suspicion of firearms offences.

The serving members of the British Army have not yet been named but were detained by members of the Metropolitan Police’s Flying Squad.

The two suspects, aged in their 30s and 40s, were detained in police cells to be questioned after being allowed a rest period under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act. They remain in custody.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police declined to say where in Berkshire the arrests were made or to confirm whether the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst was involved, which is located in the Berkshire town by the same name.

The spokesman said: ‘Two serving members of the British Army have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences. 

‘Today (Thursday), detectives from the Met’s Flying Squad, supported by the Royal Military Police and Ministry of Defence Police, attended two separate residential addresses in Berkshire.

‘A man aged in his 30s and a man aged in his 40s were arrested on suspicion of possession of ammunition and conspiracy to steal. They have been taken to a nearby police station where they remain in custody.’

The spokesman declined to give any other details.
