Jess Wright has detailed the emotional ordeal of her family’s battle with coronavirus – and says she’s still ‘praying’ her uncle recovers.

The former TOWIE star, 35, told MailOnline ‘every day felt like a ticking time bomb’ after her parents, grandparents and uncle all fell ill with the deathly disease over the festive period.

In an exclusive interview, Jess admitted she ‘didn’t know who to worry about next’ and she feels ‘fortunate’ her loved ones have so far made healthy recoveries.

‘It’s been a whirlwind’: Jess Wright has detailed the emotional ordeal of her family’s battle with coronavirus – and says she’s still ‘praying’ her uncle recovers

On her family’s recovery, Jess told MailOnline: ‘They’re a lot better. Thank God, my parents are fine – my grandparents both had it and got through it, which was the biggest relief.

‘This was all at the same time over Christmas so every day felt like a ticking time bomb and I didn’t know who to worry about next.

‘My uncle is still poorly but please God we are praying every day that he is in recovery and is going to get better. It’s been a whirlwind and made this virus feel even more real than what it was before.

‘Family is the most important thing in the world at the end of the day and this virus has shown a lot of people that. It is tragic with the amount of deaths there have been.

‘It is soul destroying to think that so many have had to live through that heartache. We feel really fortunate to that at this point we are okay.’

Last month, Mark, 33, revealed his dad has been ‘psychologically changed’ by coronavirus and described his uncle crucially suffering with the illness as the ‘hardest weeks of his life.’

He urged viewers during an appearance on Good Morning Britain to abide by the government’s lockdown rules, and said: ‘Until you get to a point like where I am now… you will regret doing what you’re doing, so listen to the rules, stay at home – there’s a lockdown for a reason.’

Jess and Mark, who’s married to Michelle Keegan, 33, have been part of the TOWIE family since the show launched over a decade ago in 2010 – with many of their former co-stars going from nights at the Sugar Hut to walking down the aisle and starting families of their own.

And Jess is no different after getting engaged to long-term partner Will Lee-Kemp last March, with hopes her dream Majorcan wedding can still going ahead this year.

In lockdown, Jess has stayed motivated, even committing herself to working out twice a day so she can feel her best in June when she ties the knot.

She said: ‘Last week I worked out every day. I am trying to do more than one workout a day as well just to get my calorie count to the right point.

‘I am getting married, well supposed to be so I am trying my best to get a head start on the fitness thing and get my body in shape so I have been doing workouts every single day.

‘It is good for my mental health, it gives me a structure for my day, I spend the morning doing emails and doing a workout, having a shower and before I know it, it’s lunchtime.

‘It’s so sad the way we’re wishing the days away at the minute but it helps make my day a little shorter and gets me fit.

‘Every time I do it, I think this never gets easier, but I have to do it I have no excuse. I’m not working 9-5 on a laptop, I can’t go anywhere.’

Jess has teamed up with casino and bingo site PlayOJO who have announced a nationwide competition to find the UK’s best amateur singer.

The former girl band member and recent participate of show Celebrity Karaoke Club is fronting the contest and hosting the virtual event, which she says will give her the excuse to get dressed up at home.

‘It’s going to be fun!’: Jess has teamed up with casino and bingo site PlayOJO who have announced a nationwide competition to find the UK’s best amateur singer

She explained: ‘It is a competition and will be a virtual live stream sing-a-long.

‘There will be a lucky winner that does a duet with me and it’s going to be really fun and something you can really glam up for, have a few drinks and sing alongside me and whoever else is in the competition.

‘It’s going to be fun, I am really looking forward to it. With things like this it’s all tongue and cheek – it doesn’t have to be professional.

‘After doing Celebrity Karaoke Club I think I have humiliated myself for a lifetime, so this time will be fine!’
