Heather Graham calls Heath Ledger ‘special’ as she shares unseen photos from their relationship

Heather Graham calls former boyfriend Heath Ledger a ‘special person’ as she shares unseen photos taken seven years before his passing at age 28

Heather Graham is looking back on her time with the late Heath Ledger fondly.

The 51-year-old actress shared some unseen photos on Wednesday that were taken throughout the course of their year-long relationship as she called him a ‘special person.’

The pair dated from 2000- until 2001 before Ledger was tragically found dead at a New York City apartment on January 22, 2008, after accidentally overdosing following months of physical and mental exhaustion.

Fond memories: Heather Graham, 51, looks back on her relationship with Heath Ledger as she shares rare photos of the pair during the course of their year long romance in 2000 before he tragically overdosed in 2008

‘Going through my photos I found these. Just remembering this time. Heath Ledger was such a special person,’ she wrote.

The trio of photos provided a more intimate look at the pair’s relationship. In one shot Heather could be seen with her arms wrapped around his neck while laying on his shoulder.

In another she posted a shirtless selfie of the Australian born actor as he took a photo of himself in the mirror with a film camera.

The pair first met in Prague at a nightclub according to author Janet Fife-Yeomans who wrote a biography on Ledger in 2008 called Heath: A Family’s Tale

Heather was filming From Hell with Johnny Depp and both were single at the time and ‘sparks flew.’

One photo posted by Graham shows Ledger visiting her on set of the film shortly after meeting.

‘She’s my muse. She’s a beautiful, beautiful girl. We make each other laugh. She’s so funny, that’s the key. It’s fun. It’s a good relationship, and a very truthful one,’ he said.

The pair flew to his hometown in Perth months after meeting, and she accompanied him on the red carpet at the premiere of his film A Knight’s Tale.

The whirlwind romance was short lived however and the budding Hollywood hunk moved on with Naomi Watts after meeting on the set of Australian film Ned Kelly.

Two years later he fell for yet another costar, dating Michelle Williams after they filmed Brokeback Mountain.

The pair had their daughter Matilda together in 2005 as he told London’s Observer, ‘We just fell very deeply into each other’s arms. Our bodies definitely made those decisions for us,’ adding ‘I always knew I would be a young father.’

They remained a romantic couple until 2007, but after the breakup Ledger’s dark demons seemed to come out and he died just five months later.

Reportedly a drug user on and off for years, things came to a head when he was juggling too many films – including his last role The Dark Knight – on very little sleep and he started relying on various cocktails of prescriptions to shut his mind off.

‘I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going,’ he told the New York Times in an interview in November just two months before he passed at the age of 28.

He was ultimately found dead from a lethal combination of six drugs in his system: two types of narcotics, two types of anti-anxiety medicine and two types of sleep medicine.
