Jenny Slate welcomes her first child Ida Lupine with fiancé Ben Shattuck as she calls motherhood ‘the most meaningful thing’

Jenny Slate revealed that she had officially welcomed her first child, a daughter by the name of Ida Lupine, with fiance Ben Shattuck. 

The 38-year-old comedic actress who first said she was expecting in mid December, told ET on Wednesday, ‘I’m not pregnant anymore. The baby came out!’ 

Speaking about being a first time mother she said it is ‘the most meaningful thing that has ever happened to me.’

Acknowledging the fact that it was a quick turnaround from her pregnancy announcement to giving birth, she playfully said she ‘did that funny thing’ where she only spoke of the news ‘like four days away.’

The Big Mouth voice over actress continued to say that she felt ‘really lucky and happy,’ and was over the moon that Ida was a ‘sweet baby’ and a ‘good sleeper.’

 The couple opted to go with the name Ida because they ‘loved’ it and chose a middle name of lupine because it was one of their favorite flowers. 

Giving birth during the COVID-19 pandemic, she had to wear a mask throughout the labor but said nonetheless she felt very connected to Shattuck.

‘He was so sweet and supportive toward me. We are already very, very close, but I guess you can get closer and closer when your love is healthy and good.’

The Parks and Recreation actress called motherhood ‘such a joy,’ adding ‘It’s so cliché but I love it.’

When she first revealed she was pregnant on a Late Night With Seth Meyers virtual appearance she detailed:  

‘Let me tell you, on night one of the lockdown, we had a really romantic night of being together, real sweet with my fiancé.’

‘And then I did what everyone else did. I kind of hunkered down and baked a lot of bread. But I just want to say I think I might have baked too much bread or eaten too much bread. You tell me, Seth.’

She showed off her bump and then proceeded to say that the nine months leading up to that had been ‘real pregnant’ for her, as she said ‘It’s different. I feel different.’

 The couple first got engaged in September 2019 on a romantic trip to Europe, after dating since January 2019. 

‘He took me to France and made a picnic and made me feel happy and free and then he asked me to marry him and I screamed YES,’ she shared on her Instagram at the time.  

Both Massachusetts natives, Ben works as the curator for the Dedee Shattuck Gallery in Westport, Massachusetts, which is owned by his mother.

Slate was previously married to Dean Fleischer-Camp from 2012 to 2016 and dated  actor Chris Evans afterwards until they split in March 2018.
