The Weeknd walks down memory lane in new teaser for upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show performance

Another commercial featuring The Weeknd dropped ahead of his much-anticipated performance during the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show.

And this second 30-second ad, dubbed The Walk, kicks off where the first one ended: at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs will face off on Super Sunday the weekend.

The Starboy hitmaker has promised to deliver a ‘cinematic experience’ when joins the illustrious list of artist to have hit the Super Bowl Halftime Show stage.

The new teaser begins with The Weeknd (born Abel Makkonen Tesfaye) casually walking along the dark corridors leading to the football field as some of his personal career highlights flash all around him.

Just seconds into the ad, the musician’s longtime friend and creative director, La Mar Taylor, starts to narrate a thought-provoking message that almost everyone can relate too. 

‘Our stories are a lifetime in the making,’ Taylor begins in a deep tone. 

‘We give to the world and the world gives back. What we create changes us. Every performance a new chapter. Every stage a new beginning.’

While delivering the final words of the message, The Weeknd can be seen walking towards the light at the end of the tunnel — the entrance to the field at Raymond James Stadium.         

To mark the premiere, the Belong To The World musician posted the commercial on his Instagram page.

‘we’re so close… #SuperBowlWeeknd (shout out @lamarctaylor for the deep voice narration),’ he wrote in the caption.

The first teaser, which premiered on January 8, began with a sequence of people singing along to The Weeknd’s hit song Blinding Lights.

It eventually winds down with a security guard just outside of Raymond James Stadium singing and dancing along to the tune when The Weeknd pulls up in a classic convertible car.

After he does a double-take, and the artist flashes a huge smile from behind the wheel, the guard waves him into the stadium .

The ad ends with the question: ‘Are you ready?’

The list of legendary performers who have also taken the stage in previous years includes Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Paul McCartney, U2, The Rolling Stones, Beyonce, Madonna, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Kay Perry, Bruno Mars and Shania Twain, among others. 

The Weeknd’s upcoming greatest hit album, titled The Highlights, is dropping on February 5, two days before the Super Bowl. The 18-track compilation includes a number of his biggest hits like Can’t Feel My Face, Starboy and Blinding Lights. 

The big game kicks off on CBS at 3:30pm PT/6:30pm ET, which means halftime should be will be around 5pm PT/8pm ET.
