  • CCTV captured a man and a woman with a dog in Bury, Greater Manchester
  • Dog is believed to be a young husky or retriever, the RSPCA say, but it is unclear
  • The man holding the lead violently yanks the dog back lifting its legs in the air
  • He does this repeatedly until the animal is slammed into nearby metal railing
  • RSPCA inspector Danni Jennings blasted behaviour as ‘totally unacceptable’

The RSPCA are trying to track down cruel pet owners who yanked their dog off the ground by a lead tied around it’s neck  – before flinging the terrified hound into metal railings.

CCTV footage captured a man and woman with a dog – believed to be a young husky or retriever – on a pavement in Bury, Greater Manchester.

The owners appear to hold the dog back by grabbing its collar at first – but when lead is extended the excitable pup runs forward.

The man holding the lead responds by violently yanking the dog back by with such force the hound’s legs are lifted off the ground.

He does this repeatedly until the animal is slammed into nearby metal railing – causing it to writhe around on the tarmac.

RSPCA inspector Danni Jennings blasted their behaviour as ‘totally unacceptable’ and said it likely left the dog ‘terrified and hurt’.

The footage was shared with the RSPCA by a concerned witness, and an  investigation has since been launched to track down the pair.

In the clip, the woman – wearing black – appears to bend over to pet the dog as they wait on the pavement.

The hound appears to be held back on a short lead or by the collar as they wait.

The man – wearing a grey and red jacket – releases the lead, letting it extend to its full length.

The dog runs out onto the road but, instead of gently pulling or calling the dog back, the man fiercely tugs the lead, lifting the dog off the ground and yanking it back onto the pavement.

The man then lifts the dog off its feet yet again when he tugs the lead for a second time.

The third and final time the dog is sent flying off the ground, it appears to crash into some metal railings behind it.

The hound rolls on the ground before getting up and walking off with the pair, after a few more harsh tugs on the lead.

The footage was filmed around 2.30pm and was reported to the RSPCA by a horrified member of the public.

Inspector Jennings said: ‘I am appealing to see if anyone can recognise the two people in this video which witnesses described as a male and female aged in their thirties with a white dog.

‘The dog could be a young Husky or retriever type dog – it is difficult to tell.

‘Witnesses said it is the male who drags the dog up by the lead into the air on three occasions and he is wearing a distinctive grey and red jacket which I am hoping may help identify him.

‘The other person wearing black is said to be a female.

‘This is totally unacceptable behaviour and I fear the dog will have been terrified and hurt by this appalling treatment so I am keen to find the people in this video.’
