The Masked Singer: Gabrielle and Sue Perkins are revealed in show’s semi-final

Gabrielle and Sue Perkins were unmasked during Saturday night’s episode of The Masked Singer.

The singer, 50, and former Great British Bake Off host, 51, revealed their identities after failing to impress the audience enough with their performances on the show.

Gabrielle was unveiled as Harlequin after all the judges bar Davina McCall named her as their guess, while Sue was unmasked as Dragon after successfully hoodwinking all of them into thinking she was someone else.

Davina had guessed Harlequin was Emelie Sande, while Mo Gilligan, Matt Lucas, Rita Ora and Jonathan Ross all figured out Gabrielle’s identity.

After being revealed at the end of the show, Gabrielle said: ‘I’m a very nervous performer and I thought by doing this maybe I can go out of my comfort zone, and it was a great experience.’

She admitted that she originally tried to hide her distinctive singing voice from the judges, but after a few weeks ‘forgot about it’ and sang as she normally would.

Sharing her surprise at getting so far, she said: ‘Thank you, the fact I got here, and with the great singers we have in the competition, I’m surprised I came so far so thank you.’

After the show, Gabrielle said: ‘It was an opportunity to do something I never thought I would, I say no thank you to a lot of TV shows that just aren’t me but this was about singing and me pushing myself.

‘This last year has been so crazy so why not make it even more crazy by singing night after night dressed as a Harlequin.’

Of what it’s like behind-the-scenes on the show, she went on: ‘The secrecy was crazy, I couldn’t have imagined quite how intense it would be.

After the show, Gabrielle said being on the show was a 'challenge' she wanted to take on, as she claimed: 'It was an opportunity to do something I never thought I would'

‘I had to arrive to the studio in a balaclava, a hoodie that says ‘don’t speak to me’, visor and gloves – you can’t have any skin on show at all.

‘You aren’t allowed to talk to 99 per cent of the people that work on the show and rely on giving a thumbs up or shake of the head when asked questions.

‘You have to stay in your dressing room, be escorted from A to B. It’s like a military operation, the secrecy is taken so seriously and on the first day was really overwhelming but you get used to it and it’s fun playing the game.’

Meanwhile when it came to Sue’s reveal, Mo guessed Dragon was Ricki Lake, while Davina chose Whoopi Goldberg, Matt went with Michelle Visage, and Rita and Jonathan both claimed she was Jennifer Saunders.

Gushing about taking part in the show after taking off her mask, Sue claimed she felt ‘liberated’ while in costume as she’s always been petrified of singing in public.

She explained: ‘Being dragon is liberating and brilliant, I have been able to be playful and silly and childlike, and things you cant be.

‘I would never ever sing, I am terrified of performing in public. What would be interesting is me singing without the mask, lets see if it broke the spell for me.’

Luckily, Sue was able to perform with her Dragon head-piece off as she sang one final song before leaving the show.

Speaking after her departure from the show, Sue said of taking part: ‘It just felt so utterly counter-intuitive that I had to do it.

‘I’m usually up a mountain or down a river these days – so I’m probably the last person that anyone would think of in a musical entertainment context. I got an awful lot of joy out of hoodwinking the panel.’

The comedian rose to fame as part of the comedy duo Mel and Sue alongside Mel Giedroyc, and she has also established herself as a TV and radio presenter.

Sir Lenny Henry and A-Ha singer Morten Harket were both unmasked during a double elimination last week.

The Viking was the first to have his mask removed as he was revealed to be Morten, 61, after failing to win votes with his version of Coldplay’s The Scientist.

It was then decided who the second celebrity to leave would be, with both Dragon and Blob at risk of going home. The judges opted to save Dragon and send Blob home.

It was soon revealed that Sir Lenny, 62, was behind the mask after the judges guessed it could be Stephen Fry, Joe Wicks, Lenny, Ainsley Harriott and Morgan Freeman.
