Katy Perry opens up about going back to work on American Idol weeks after giving birth

Katy Perry‘s baby girl is living up to her astrological sign already!

The 36-year-old pop star gushed about her five-month-old daughter Daisy Dove Bloom and revealed her struggle with going back to work after giving birth, during an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan Monday.

Perry was joined virtually by her fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan to promote the newest season of American Idol – which is coincidentally hosted by Kelly and Ryan’s own Ryan Seacrest.

New mom: Katy Perry gushed about her daughter Daisy Dove Bloom and revealed her struggle with going back to work after giving birth, during an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan Monday.

After just a few months as new parents, Katy told the daytime talk show hosts that she and fiance Orlando Bloom already have Daisy on a set schedule.

‘Yeah, of course there’s a routine,’ Katy said. ‘My daughter is a Virgo and she thrives in routine.’

While the couple is absolutely smitten with their bundle of joy, as a first time mom, it wasn’t easy for Perry to go back to work so quickly after she had the baby.

‘I did start filming American Idol season 4 after I’d given birth, five weeks later,’ the singer explained. ‘And I didn’t plan that. But it was like, “Oh, my God!” It was so intense, you know?’

She added: ‘Giving birth, then going back to work and breastfeeding, like — holy crap! This is what women do? Oh my God!’

Kelly Ripa, who is mom to Lola, 19, Michael, 23 and Joaquin, 17, knows a thing or two about being a working mom and immediately related to what Perry was saying.

‘It’s kinda amazing,’ she quipped. ‘It’s like you can’t believe what your body is capable of, right?’

During a recent Q&A to promote her limited edition Coca-Cola can, Katy opened up even more about how her life has changed since becoming a mom.

'It's kinda amazing,' quipped mom of three Kelly Ripa. 'It's like you can't believe what your body is capable of, right?'

‘I think that you realize that when you become a mother… you just have to focus on being a mom,’ she said. ‘And it’s not because you don’t love other people, it’s not because of anything besides you just want to be a great mom.

‘So a lot of stuff falls away when you become a mom and it is the best job in the world. I highly recommend it when you’re ready.’
