Jesse Plemons hints he is playing a villain opposite Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt in Disney’s Jungle Cruise

Jesse Plemons plays the villainous Roy Mitchell in the gripping true story drama Judas and the Black Messiah on HBO Max, and it seems he’ll be playing a villain in his next movie as well, Jungle Cruise.

Plemons, 32, was promoting Judas and the Black Messiah in a new interview with Insider, when he was asked about his character on Jungle Cruise, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

While he wouldn’t divulge too many specifics about his character, he strongly insinuated that he will be a villainous character.

When asked about his Jungle Cruise character, he began, ‘Me and Dwayne Johnson just being good guys together? C’mon. That’s no fun.’

While Plemons has played a wide range of characters from his days as a child star to his breakout role as Landry Clarke in Friday Night Lights, he’s perhaps best known for his villainous turns.

He earned rave reviews for his turn as Todd Alquist on Breaking Bad, which he reprised in El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie and also for comedic characters like Gary in Game Night.

But if he was pressed to choose what kind of character he’d most like to play, Plemons said he would prefer to play a villain.

‘There’s a license to having more fun,’ the actor said of his villainous characters.

‘There’s also an opportunity to explore regions you’re not able to when you’re playing someone good,’ he added.

Jungle Cruise is based on the Disneyland theme park ride of the same name, following Frank (Johnson), a riverboat captain who takes a scientist (Blunt) and her brother (Jack Whitehall) on an expedition to search for a mystical artifact.

They find themselves competing against another expedition, whom Plemons’ character presumably belongs to.

The film also stars Edgar Ramirez and Paul Giamatti, and is slated to hit theaters nationwide on June 30, though that may change if enough theaters still aren’t open due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
