Showrunners Jan Nash and Christopher Silber said it had been ‘an honor’ to work on 150 episodes of the TV drama set in the world of military personnel.

‘As disappointed as we are to see NOLA end, we couldn’t be prouder of the work we’ve done and are grateful to the spectacular and resilient Crescent City that embraced us for seven wonderful years,’ the said in a statement.

The cancellation of NCIS: New Orleans comes hot on the heels of the news Wednesday that CBS has decided to end sitcom Mom starring Allison Janney after eight seasons.

The NCIS franchise launched in 2003 with a spin-off of TV show JAG.

Starring Mark Harmon, it introduced audiences to the world of Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

In 2009, CBS added NCIS: Los Angeles starring LL Cool J and Chris O’Donnell and it is now in its 12th season.

CBS is not done with the franchise as it was revealed yesterday that the network is considering a version based in Hawaii.

NCIS: Hawaii would likely use the ‘extensive production base’ CBS already has on in the state from Hawaii Five-0, which ended its 10-season run last April, according to Deadline.com.

The network also has the Hawaii-based Magnum P.I. reboot which could lead to potential crossovers with the new NCIS series.
