Bobby Shmurda is free! Brooklyn rapper granted early prison release from seven-year sentence

Bobby Shmurda is free.

The Brooklyn-based rapper, 26, has been released from prison, ending his seven-year sentence 10-months earlier than expected.

The Living Life rapper left New York’s Clinton Correctional Facility just before 8:30 on Tuesday, according to TMZ.

Excited to get back to normal life, the first thing Shmurda did after being discharged was call his mother Leslie Pollard on FaceTime to celebrate.

‘My baby!’ she squealed in a Twitter video of the happy moment, telling her son how ‘good’ he looked despite his time behind bars.

Clearly thrilled to be free, he hammed it up a bit, flexing his arms and slipping on a diamond chain while talking to mom.

Shmurda had been in custody since December 2014, and was initially sentenced to six to seven years in prison after arranging a 2016 plea deal for conspiracy to possess weapons and possession of a weapon. The arrangement gave him credit for two-years of time served.

‘Thank you for remaining loyal and for riding this six year sentence out with me,’ Shmurda wrote in an Instagram Story ahead of his release. ‘I love you all and look forward to seeing you soon.’

Mom Leslie shared some of his post-release plans on Monday, telling TMZ Bobby was looking forward to spending time with his family and making music once more.

Bobby and family will enjoy an ‘intimate’ meal tonight before getting back to the studio for the first time in over half-a-decade,

According to the TMZ, mom Pollard said the star will devote ‘most, if not all, of his time to creating music again’.

Shmurda, whose legal name is Ackquille Pollard, will need to regularly check-in with his parole officer.

After his release, he will be on parole until 2026.

It was revealed last month by the New York State Department of Corrections that the hitmaker would be eligible for release early.

Shmurda was sentenced to seven years in 2016 after pleading guilty to conspiracy and weapons possession charges in connection to what prosecutors said was a leading role in the GS9 gang.

GS9 is an offshoot of the Crips in the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn.

At the time, he had already spent two years in prison in lieu of a $2 million bond.

The rapper burst out onto the hip-hop scene with his hit single called Hot Boy in the edited version, which subsequently went as high as number six on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2014.

The then 19-year-old followed that up by signing a seven-figure, multi-album deal with Epic Records.

Authorities arrested Shmurda in late 2014 after he left a recording studio near Radio City Music Hall, only days after he performed Hot Boy for a national television audience on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Investigators found two handguns and a small amount of crack cocaine in a car in which he was riding, authorities said.

Shmurda was denied parole in September, in part for disciplinary actions taken against him while incarcerated, and subsequently ordered to his maximum sentence until Dec. 21, 2021.

According to TMZ, he racked up 11 violations behind bars, caught having a weapon, drugs, and fighting.

But a recently change in behavior must have swayed the system to grant him early release.

Shmurda was incarcerated at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York, according to the Department of Corrections inmate database.
