Hamza was acting as a lookout while his two accomplices forced their way into a family’s home in Erdington, Birmingham on August 18 last year.

While the family, including their children, slept upstairs the gang stole thousands of pounds worth of jewellery before stealing a black VW Golf and a Mercedes.

The next night the trio broke into a house in Hall Green at 2am and stole a purse and keys before stealing two Mercedes from the driveway.

An hour later the VW Golf the gang had stolen from the night before which they used in the Hall Green raid, was spotted by traffic police.

PCs Richard Adams and Lewis Millington-Moss pursued it as it weaved dangerously in and out of traffic.

Footage captured the moment the car crashed into an oncoming vehicle and flipped onto its side.

Javed, of Birmingham, admitted two counts of burglary and was jailed for five years and three months at Birmingham Crown Court on February 16.

Detective Constable Karen Kirman, of West Midlands Police, said: ‘It’s thanks to the quick response of our officers, who remained alert and vigilant in the early hours, that a swift arrest was made and a dangerously driven car was stopped before anyone could get hurt.

‘This was down to good communication between our constables, including noting the car used at the crime scene and our patrol car picking it up.

‘We arrested another man in relation to the burglaries, he has been released pending investigation and our enquiries into the third male continue.’
