Jake Edwards cryptically posted in January he was ‘spending a lot of time alone’

Jake Edwards’ relationship with ‘wife’ Rebecca Zemek took a dramatic turn during Married At First Sight’s first dinner party on Monday night.

And a cryptic post made by former AFL footballer Jake back in January hinted that the reality TV couple’s relationship may be over.

In the post, obtained by Daily Mail Australia, Jake, 32, wrote that he had ‘been taking time to be alone’.

It’s a telling statement given the reality TV hit, which only began airing last week, is typically filmed months in advance. The current series, Season 8, began filming last year.

The show’s ‘reunion special’ was taped last month.

Jake’s comment was in response to a fan question asking what the former athlete’s favourite thing to do was during ‘me’ time.

Edwards also wrote, ‘Lately I have been spending a lot of time just by myself and looking deep to find a few answers’.

It comes after Daily Mail Australia exclusively revealed that last month Jake went for a night on the town with fellow contestant Booka Nile, who was paired on the show with electrician Brett Helling.

Newlyweds  Beck and Jake had a tense confrontation during Monday’s episode of Married At First Sight.

Bec, 27, labelled Jake ‘boring’, prompting him to brand her ‘rude’ and ‘disrespectful’ during an awkward conversation with the show’s other participants.

Talking to the other brides at the show’s first dinner party, Bec claimed that Jake needed ‘validation all the time’.

‘I need a foundation of friendship and banter. Honestly, I didn’t laugh the entire honeymoon, at all. There is no chemistry or love between us,’ she continued.

Sensing Bec was badmouthing him to the others, Jake approached the women, asking if he could ‘crash this party’.

Making conversation, fellow bride Joanne Todd asked Jake if Bec was ‘the kind of girl you’d approach on the outside world’.

‘She is, yes… First time I’d seen her, I was blown away,’ he confessed, before admitting they’d had some issues.

‘Getting to know Bec, we’ve had our challenges, obviously. She’s so headstrong, it’s very challenging for me. I tried too hard too early to impress her and try to make it work.’

Undeterred, Bec continued her critique of Jake and their relationship in front of him and several of the other brides.

Ouch: 'I like to have a joke a little bit more, and so I find Jake boring sometimes. He makes 32 seem really, like, old,' Bec said of Jake

‘He tries way too hard and then this facade comes on, and I’m like, “Who even is Jake?”‘ she began.

An uncomfortable Joanne, 39, interjected and said that her ‘husband’, James Susler, had only spoken ‘highly’ of Jake.

‘Apparently I’m boring though,’ interrupted the clearly offended former footballer-turned-charity CEO.

He later said: ‘I felt tonight that Bec was pretty harsh, actually. Anything I do or say around her, it’s not good enough…

‘It’s disrespectful, it’s rude and it’s a real problem for me.’
