Louise Redknapp was ‘scared’ to write about ‘last few years’ in book following divorce from Jamie

Louise Redknapp has revealed she was scared about writing about the last few years of her life that followed her divorce from ex-husband Jamie in her new book.

The media personality, 46, appeared on Wednesday’s episode of The One Show and discussed her book You’ve Got This with hosts Alex Jones and Ronan Keating.

Asked what the hardest part of writing was, Louise admitted the most recent years of her life were tough to put down on paper following the former couple’s split in 2017 but added the book ‘isn’t about being nasty about anybody’.

Honest: Louise Redknapp has revealed she was scared about writing about the last few years of her life that followed her divorce from ex-husband Jamie in her new book

She said: ‘Probably the last few years of my life [were the hardest]. I can talk about Eternal, being just me and my mum for a few years.

‘The last few years I’ve learned so much. Those were the chapters I was most scared about putting out.

‘This isn’t a book about being nasty about anybody or hurting anybody, this is just me saying how I felt as a woman, as a mum, that got to a certain age in my life. Things got a bit far and I put it down on paper. It’s what I learned from that time.’

Louise added that she was ‘shocked’ by the ‘amount of judgement’ she has faced being in the public eye in recent years, adding that her sons Charles, 16, and Beau, 12, have been her ‘saviours’.

She said: ‘The message I try and give in the book is that we’re not all perfect and no one knows anyone else’s life unless you’re walking in their shoes.

‘I was really shocked by the amount of, I don’t know, judgement maybe is the right word. I couldn’t quite understand why I was so heavily judged.

‘I was going through a hard time and I think what I did learn is you have to get broad shoulders in life. Keep your chin up and keep going. My boys were an absolute saviour.’

She added: ‘It’s not about divorce, it goes right through the years. The dating bits are ridiculous, but very truthful.’

Louise said the first part of each chapter discusses certain parts of her life, followed by a section on what she has learned from it.

She explained: ‘I’ve really just talked about certain stages in my life. Then the second part of the chapter is, what I’ve learned along the way, what I wish I would’ve done different.

‘As much as it speaks about my life, it’s not a big tell all book. This is a book for anybody that feels they don’t always get it right.’

The former Eternal star also added that she will likely not be writing anymore books in the future, saying: ‘I don’t think I’ve got another book in me, it’s too emotional!’

Louise admitted to feeling ‘lonely, anxious and unimportant’ in the last few months of her marriage to Jamie, 47, in the book.

In an extract, the star writes: ‘For a long time, I ticked all the boxes of being the “picture-perfect” wife. The truth? For a lot of that time, I actually felt lonely, anxious and unimportant.’

She goes on: ‘Looking back, I wish I’d sat down and really tried to explain how much I was struggling, how unimportant I felt in our lives together and how depressed this made me feel.’

The couple were married for almost 20 years; they tied the knot in Bermuda in 1998 and Louise confirmed they had parted ways in September 2017 after months of speculation.

Louise admits in the book that she felt this way as Jamie’s post-football career took off, with him landing television and punditry gigs left, right and centre.

‘When I was married I honestly got to the stage that when I walked into a room with Jamie, I felt like other people were surprised that he had chosen me and was still with me,’ she admits.

Jamie is believed to have been dating Swedish model Frida Andersson-Lourie, 37, since the summer of 2020, but Louise has remained single since the split.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
