MasterChef star Poh Ling Yeow says it’s ‘refreshing’ being single again after split from husband Jono Bennett… and admits her Mormon upbringing made her ‘very cautious in dating situations’

She may be known for her complex love life, but newly single MasterChef star Poh Ling Yeow says she is just enjoying being on her own for the time being.

The celebrity chef, 48, told HuffPost Australia on Wednesday she was in a good place after announcing her split from husband Jonathan Bennett last month.

She said it was ‘a really refreshing feeling’ being single for a lengthy period for the first time in 24 years.

‘Essentially half my life I’ve been in a serious relationship,’ she reflected, noting how she’d previously jumped from one serious romance to another without spending much time on her own.

Last month, Poh announced she had split from her second husband, Jonathan, after six years of marriage and 12 years together in total.

She told The Weekend Australian: ‘2021 is about me doing the things I love and remembering who I am without another person. [Husband] Jono and I broke up.’

Before meeting Jonathan, she was married to Matt Phipps for a decade.

Elsewhere in her HuffPost interview, Poh revealed how her strict Mormon upbringing had an impact on her dating life.

‘I resented my conservative cultural upbringing because it took away from my freedom, but at the same time it made me very cautious in dating situations,’ the Malaysian-born TV star admitted.

She has said that she and Jonathan will remain friends despite their divorce, much like her and Matt have done.

After their separation, Matt went on to marry Poh’s close pal Sarah, with whom she also remains on good terms.
