Meghan Markle already has a £4,800 Cartier watch she plans to give to her daughter

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex‘s little girl is due to be born this summer – and it appears Meghan Markle already has the baby’s first heirloom ready and waiting.

Prince Harry and Meghan, who now live in Montecito, California, said they are preparing to welcome a sister for their 22-month-old son Archie later this year, during their bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview earlier this week.

But despite still having a few months before they meet their newest family member, the duchess, 39, already has a gift lined up for her daughter – that she purchased before she had even met Prince Harry.

In an interview back in 2015, almost a year before Meghan began dating her now husband, the then Suits actress revealed the £4,800 heirloom Cartier piece she plans to give to her daughter.

Speaking to Hello! she said: ‘I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch. When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season – which, at the time, felt like such a milestone – I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version.

‘I had it engraved on the back, “To M.M. From M.M.”, and I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.’

The duchess appears to have owned the watch since 2013, having been pictured wearing it often before her marriage to Prince Harry.

The classic piece retails at almost £5,000 and the engraving is thought to stand for ‘to Meghan Markle from Meghan Markle’ because it was a gift to herself to celebrate the success of Suits.

Meghan and Prince Harry revealed their second child is a girl and is due to be born this summer, during their bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview.

Harry, 36, joined his wife for the second half of the interview on CBS with Oprah, which aired on Sunday, and excitedly told the chat show host: ‘It’s a girl.’

He said his first thought was ‘amazing’ when he learned they were having a girl, adding: ‘Just grateful. To have any child, any one or any two, would have been amazing.

‘But to have a boy and then a girl, I mean what more can you ask for? Now we’ve got our family, we got the four of us and our two dogs.’

While the couple made no hint of what their daughter’s name would be, fans are already speculating that they will call her Diana, after Harry’s late mother.

Asked if they were ‘done’ with two children, Harry said ‘done’ and Meghan said: ‘Two is it.’ She also confirmed the baby is due in the ‘summertime’.

The girl will not be entitled, at this stage, to be an HRH nor a princess title due to rules set out more than 100 years ago by George V – but this is the same as what would have happened pre-Megxit.

The baby is entitled to be a Lady, but Harry and Meghan will again opt to style their second-born a plain Miss, with the surname Mountbatten-Windsor.

The couple announced on Valentine’s Day last month that they are expecting a second child, saying they were ‘overjoyed’ at their pregnancy.

If born in the US, the baby will be entitled to US citizenship as an automatic right, and will have dual citizenship through her father. She will also be able to run for US presidency if born on US soil.

Frenzied fans were quick to speculate on the future baby girl’s name, with many hoping Harry and Meghan would honour his late mother’s memory by calling the child Diana.

‘A mini Diana for Meghan and Harry,’ one fan rejoiced. ‘Diana?’, simply asked another.

‘I hope they name their baby girl Diana,’ another wrote. ‘Plot Twist…. Please name her Alexandra Diana Mountbatten Windsor,’ said one.  ‘Name the baby Diana,’ another simply said.

A creative fan said the couple could go for ‘Spencer Markle,’ in order to switch things up, referencing the late Lady Diana’s maiden name.

Bookies have started taking odds on what the name of Archie’s sibling would be, with Diana coming in first position as well, before Alexandra and Florence, Arabella and Elizabeth.

Bookmakers Ladbrokes had said at the time that the chances of Harry and Meghan naming their girl Diana were four to one.

To celebrate the news last month, the couple released a black and white photograph which showed them beaming with delight.

Meghan lay with her head in her husband’s lap, her hand resting on her visible baby bump.  Barefoot Harry cradled her head in his hand as the couple relaxed together under a tree on a sprawling sunlit lawn.

The picture was shot by photographer Misan Harriman, a friend of the duke and duchess.

It was believed to have been taken in Montecito, California, where the pair now live after deciding to leave Britain and step down from their roles in the Royal Family.

A spokesman for the couple said at the time: ‘We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.’
